    I don't know the details about the stuff - but I can figure it out eventually. Possibly mathjax renders things differently.

    Here is the latex mod that was pointed out by someone today on the support forum: https://xenforo.com/community/resources/bbcodes-buttons-manager-advanced-bb-codes-pack.1428/ But I don't think this forum uses it.
