I've never seen a store selling springs with a "spring constant" listed.

So if I figure out the spring constant I need, the length of the spring, how do I find a spring that matches these parameters?
EDIT : I'm guessing the Rate...
Can you give me some rough guidelines as to the expected number of turns though for say moving a 1 pound load at say 0.4 inches per second? That way I can see if I am on the right track with my results?
When I calculate for low accelerations like 0.2 inches per second per second. I get...
So I'm building a solenoid that needs to move a load of 5 ounces, 0.4 inches.
I'm pretty sure my calculations for the force inside the coil on a iron pin are correct:
F = (B^2 * A) / (2 * Uo). Where B is the flux density, A is cross sectional area of pin Uo is permeability of free space...
I'm having a tiny debate with someone over whether a 2nd coaxial rotor generates additional lift for a helicopter by itself or the helicopter has additional lift only due to the elimination of the tail rotor so 100% power goes to generating lift?
My theory is that it does not generate...
Looks to me your stacks are wired parallel which will add the currents, but keep voltage the same. If you wire the stacks in series, you create voltages in a series which are additive and the currents the same.
Any specific books you guys recommend? I understand a bit, like I got no problem with logic gates etc... stuff like that, but I do some have difficulty mentally visualizing the path electricity flows.
For example
I know that only low will light when the switch is low, and high etc..., but I...
I'm trying to learn to design digital circuits so as a project I wanted to build a counter that would work as follows:
When a reset button is pushed, it will set the counter at 0
When a + button is pushed, it will add one to the counter
when a - button is pushed, it will subtract one from...
Sadly I do not qualify for financial aid because my mom makes too much money and for some reason I am required to put her on my financial aid information even though she does not pay ANY of my college.
If it's not guaranteed, my time would be better spent working a real job than writing the essay.
When your trying to feed your kids do you gamble $20 in hopes of winning of $400 to buy food? No. I'm not going to gamble 5-6 hours of my time writing a decent essay that MAY win me $500 when I...
When I graduated high school I didn't even try to get any scholarships because of my 2.0 GPA. I have like a 3.8 now in community college, but I'm not sure where to go to apply for scholarships? The ones I find online are all contests where you have to write essays and stuff and I don't really...
I'm wanting to do some experiments with creating electricity from piezoelectric materials but I'm not sure where I can buy some. I'm looking for some materials that are easily bendable like paper and preferably cheap as I have several experiments I'd like to try.
If anyone knows a good...
I'm almost finished with my associates in science at my community college which means I have to pick a real college end of this coming semester. My question is if college name really matters? Going through middle school and high school I was always thinking I'd go to MIT and what not, but I just...
Reread the post. I said BUY a cnc mill. Not build. although I've found guides to build cnc mills I would rather have something of higher quality. I have experience programming a cnc lathe.
Also the mill the guy in first link is using is home-made. There are instructions to build it at...
Right, I'm mainly doing it for the learning experience and as an alternative to buying a real generator. (We need back up power in our house to keep our really large and expensive salt water fish tank alive). I posted in general engineering forum about more specifics on building it, but russ...
