Computational, theoretical or mathematical physics for finance (Quan)?

I am in Italy, the PhD is 3-4 year. Why you say "quantitative finance is something that may pay the bills"? The income is not good? How much it is, approximately? PS. What about statistical physics? Is it better to switch from physics to quantitative finance?

Computational, theoretical or mathematical physics for finance (Quan)?

I don't want to do physics to become a quant. I want to do the researcher for some years, for personal interest. But I don't want to this job for ever, just some years. And I'm studying physics (Bachelor in EU ) not only for job, but for personal interest. Anyway, thanks for the book.

Hi. My purpose is to take a phd in physics, and after few years as researcher to become a Quant. What phd is better for this purpose: computational, theoretical or mathematical physics? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computational_physics
