Energy requirements of sustaining plasma vs first ionizing it.

Hello all, I was wondering if it takes less energy to sustain an already ionized gas with an electric arc than it does when you are first trying to ionize the gas. I would think it would be, but I am not sure. Thanks.

Question on variable definitions in Paschens law? (breakdown voltage)

Hello all, In the equation V= apd/Ln(pd)+b as described by Paschens law regarding breakdown voltage, I was wondering what the "L" and the "n" stood for. Example of what I'm looking for: p stands for pressure. Thanks.

Help with understanding of magnetic fields related to moving electrons

Hello all, I am in need of understanding of magnetic fields. More specifically i was wondering exactly why there is a magnetic field around a wire with current moving through it. Where i am going with this is.. if i had plasma contained, and i managed to get it moving in the container, would...

    Material has low excitation temperature

There are two ways to answer your question. First, there are different methods to achieve ionization so there are different temperatures associated with each. There are high-energy ways to ionize, such as heat itself, or even radiation. These form the High temperature thermal plasmas. However...

    Details of temperature of plasma?

Hello all, I was wondering if the temperature of a plasma is relative to how much of it there is, or if it is purely based on how much energy is put into it? Thanks.
