The triple (x,w,v) and the differential [ itex ] d \pi: (x,w,v) \rightarrow (x,w) [/ itex ] that you mention certainly makes sense (with v being 2 dimensional in order to keep the [ itex ] dim(T(TM)) = 2 dim(TM)[ / itex ]).
