Graduate Understanding Free Energy in Fuel Cell Reactions
Just read the sticky. Perhaps this should have been in the HW section. But it is a conceptual question. I just pulled a relevant textbook question to demonstrate my areas of confusion about free energy.- lustrog

Undergrad Alternative definitions of energy?
I would have answered it the way Feynman explained it (see: http://student.fizika.org/~jsisko/Knjige/Opca%20Fizika/Feynman%20Lectures%20on%20Physics/Vol%201%20Ch%2004%20-%20Conservation%20of%20Energy.pdf). That is to say, energy is just something we have discovered in nature that is always...- lustrog

Graduate Understanding Free Energy in Fuel Cell Reactions
I'm given a fuel cell that uses methane as fuel: (CH4) + 2(O2) --> 2(H2O) + (CO2) And I'm asked to find (a) the electrical work I can get out for each mole of methane, and (b) the amount of waste heat produced. I understand that ΔG is defined as the amount of useful non-mechanical work...- lustrog

High School Question about basic concept of solving system of equations
much appreciated, mark44. one of the things that bothered me is why you can treat the x's and y's of each equation as the same value. but your response put me on the right track to clearing that up too, because if you think about it in two steps it makes sense. (if anyone else has been...- lustrog

High School Question about basic concept of solving system of equations
why does adding equations solve the system of equations? I've taken matrix algebra but, to be honest, was too bashful to ask such a simple question. :P- lustrog
