Why is the velocity of a satellite in a circular orbit twice the orbital radius?
well since I assumed orbital radius was 2Eradius, then (GMearth/r)^.5= v I plugged in (6.67*10^-11(5.98*10^24)/6.37*10^6)6.5= 7913.048m/s- Maiia

Why is the velocity of a satellite in a circular orbit twice the orbital radius?
Homework Statement A satellite is in a circular orbit about the Earth at a distance of one Earth radius above the surface. What is the velocity of the satellite? The Attempt at a Solution I assumed the orbital radius was twice the radius of the Earth so GMearth/r= velocity but that...- Maiia

Compute mass of black hole, gravitational and circular acceleration
Homework Statement Determine the mass of the black hole lurking at the center of our galaxy. Conveniently, Nature has arranged for a number of stars to be orbiting the black hole. Star S0-19 has an orbital period of 37 years, and a semimajor axis of 1720 AU. Assume circular orbit and compute...- Maiia

Total mass of galaxy, circular acceleration and gravity
Homework Statement The Sun orbits the black hole in the center of the Milky Way galaxy. It takes approx 225million years for the Sun to make one revolution, and the Sun is approx 26,000 light-years away. Estimate the mass of the galaxy contained inside the Sun's orbit. If there is roughly 5...- Maiia

Total centripetal acceleration ringworld
Homework Statement A) In Larry Niven’s science fiction novel Ringworld, a ring of material or radius 1.54 × 1011 m rotates about a star with a rotational speed of 1.4 × 106 m/s. The inhabitants of this ring world experience a normal contact force ~n. Acting alone, this normal force would...- Maiia

Gravitational acceleration/ centripetal
Homework Statement Given: G = 6.67259 × 10−11 N · m2/kg2 A satellite moves in a circular orbit around Earth at a speed of 3160 m/s. Find the satellite’s altitude above the surface of Earth. Answer in units of m. I'm not sure how to do this without the mass of Earth..don't you need it to plug...- Maiia

Calculate Speed of 91.7 kg Person at Equator
Homework Statement An early major objection to the idea that Earth is spinning on its axis was that Earth would turn so fast at the equator that people would be thrown into space. Given : radius of Earth = 6.37 × 106 m, mass of Earth = 5.98 × 1024 kg , radius of moon =...- Maiia
