What is happening inside the zener diode ?

I was told that Zener breakdown was due to tunneling... I'm no sure if that's correct though.

How to cut power when given max voltage reached?

Diode like Simon says. Try buying a few zeners with a reverse breakdown voltage of 2.0 volts. Run it in parallel with the component you are trying to protect, and put the diode in backwards.

Can a Microcontroller Replace a 555 Timer for a Low Frequency Flasher?

I believe what bobbywhy is saying, is that one R and C probably aren't going to cost you that much. Use Mouser.com to find some L and C with $ values. http://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Capacitors/_/N-5g7r/ http://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Inductors/_/N-5gb4/ Also, you could...

Build Coil-Gun w/ Lithium Car Batteries: Rapid Fire & High Velocity?

For coil guns to be able to 'shoot' or 'launch' anything, you need a HIGH HIGH current, and that's dangerous. We don't want anyone to die because someone gave you not safety first advice from this forum. Car batteries: dangerous If you don't understand why your project is incredibly...

    Interesting argument between friends

Tell your friend he is a fool, you are exactly right. Power of a heater is designed to only heat a house/room etc. Power from a PC power source is to power a PC, heat is just an undesired side effect. Is like he is saying a tank made of solid Uranium and a race car made of carbon fiber...

    Stability theory and impulse response

If your impulse response is too big, or goes to infinity, then when you integrate it, the integral will be infinity, and that's bad. That is a non stable system. If your impulse response stops eventually, then when you integrate it, the integral will be finite, then your system is stable.

Which JK Flip Flop is Best for Simple State Machines Using a 9V Battery?

D-flip flops still have a clock input for them to change states, right? Do you have any suggestions for a D-flip flop?

    Zener diode application suggetions

The noise circuits and the clipper look really interesting, and that's exactly what I was looking for! Thanks! And that book was unavailable to ship, but I will look into getting it, it seemed pretty interesting.

    Zener diode application suggetions

Hi, I recently bought 10 Zener diodes the last time I purchase circuit elements. I was wondering if anyone had simple circuits or projects I could do, that needs zener diodes.

Which JK Flip Flop is Best for Simple State Machines Using a 9V Battery?

Hi, I am looking to build some very simple state machines, with JK flip flops. I am planning to run them off a 9 volt battery, if that is feasible. Does anyone have a suggestion on what JK flip flop to buy, preferably from Mouser? I know Mouser has about 300 different parameters to pick...

V=0, I=0: Open or Short Circuit?

'When Voltage across two points is 0 & current flowing through that connection is 0' That means I have an amp meter, and a volt meter. I measure the voltage between two points, and the voltage is zero. I then take my amp meter and measure the current that flows through both those nodes, and...

    Stability theory and impulse response

Let me know if that helps, or if I didn't explain it well enough. Or if you need to know about stability in Z-transforms.

    Stability theory and impulse response

Check out this wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTI_system_theory#Important_system_properties It depends on your application. If you are doing Fourier transforms, then what you said is true and to be stable the impulse responds h(t) must be finite. Its different for...
