How Can I Control Syringe Pressure with Compressed Air and Vacuum Pump?
I would like to try and set up a pressure control system in my lab using house vacuum and compressed air. Or otherwise using a compressed air source and vacuum pump. I want to be able to control the pressure in a reservoir (a syringe) within the range of -15 to +15psi. I was thinking...- nanomoly

Will This Transformer Setup Work for Heater Control?
The purpose of the variable transformer is not to output 110V. It can output less than 110V if needed. For example if you set the variable transformer to 80V. The step down transformer is designed to go from 110V to 16V meaning it steps down by ratio of (0.14). If you input 80V the step...- nanomoly

Will This Transformer Setup Work for Heater Control?
Thanks a lo for your help Jim. You are correct that the expensive controller measures the temperature directly and has a feedback loop to control the heater. I know that I can figure out what position for the dial on the variable transformer corresponds to the maximum temperature and ensure...- nanomoly

Will This Transformer Setup Work for Heater Control?
This is all the information I have available. This setup was suggested by the heater manufacturer. I believe the variable transformer is not used by itself because it can carry only 25A which is less than the heater will draw.- nanomoly

Will This Transformer Setup Work for Heater Control?
I am looking to power a heater. According to the product specifications it will require 11.1V/26.4A to heat to 800C and 16.9V/33.1A to heat to 1000C. The manufacturer sells an expensive temperature controller which we would like to avoid using. It has been suggested to me that I use a variable...- nanomoly

RC Charge/Discharge for Electrochemical Capacitor
I am a student working on designing an electrochemical capacitor (an area which i have limited experience). When I charge this capacitor through an RC circuit I notice two non ideal effects. I need to address the cause of these effects if I can ever hope to correct them. The first problem is...- nanomoly

Engineering What Can I Do with a Degree in Nanotechnology Engineering?
I am a student currently studying nanotechnology engineering and I have started to become concerned as to what I am actually going to do with my degree. As odd as this may sound I would like to become a licensed engineer and based on my past work experience can't really see myself being an...- nanomoly
