What Novel are You Reading? Holiday Read Recommendations?
Asimov is on my list of authors to start familiarizing myself with. I am acquainted with Asimov's laws of robotics of course (they really push the ethics stuff in bioengineering...), but have yet to actually read any of his novels. I have not read Childhood's End. I really need to start brushing...- Naomi

Work and Energy Problem. Why not include PE?
I"m still not sure that I understand that. To clarify, I'll try to break down my method a bit more. Perhaps that will help show more thoroughly where exactly my understanding is flawed. To start, we know that WTOT = ΔKE + ΔU WTOT = KEf - KEi + Uf - Ui Because the truck goes from moving to...- Naomi

Work and Energy Problem. Why not include PE?
Update: I solved the problem without incorporating the potential energy and the solution was correct. My answer came out to be .12km. However, I still don't fully understand why potential energy is not incorporated.- Naomi

Under $2 Gas: Enjoy It While You Can!
I live near Phoenix, Arizona. The gas station was in Phoenix. I had to drive a bit to get there too, but the savings were worth it. It cost me less than 30 dollars to fill up my tank when it normally costs me about $50...- Naomi

First World Problems: Share the Silliest Things That Bug You!
...Christmas is just around the corner... : ). Hopefully, a new desktop is in order. Until then, I'll just have to stick stuff under my laptop to prevent it from wobbling.- Naomi

Under $2 Gas: Enjoy It While You Can!
Semi random: I just filled up my gas tank for $1.99 a gallon. That's insane. But pleasant at the same time.- Naomi

Work and Energy Problem. Why not include PE?
Cool, Thanks! In the mean time I'll keep trying to work on it. I think the problem lies in the fact that I'm using potential energy, Uf. I don't think I am supposed to incorporate it, based on similar examples in my textbook. However, I also don't understand why I wouldn't incorporate it either.- Naomi

First World Problems: Share the Silliest Things That Bug You!
I've got two problems that I can think of right now: 1. I didn't have a laptop desk for my new laptop. So I solved this first world problem by using my old laptop as a laptop desk. 2. My new laptop does not sit flat on the desk. It is raised slightly on the left side. And it makes it very...- Naomi

Work and Energy Problem. Why not include PE?
Homework Statement Truck brakes can fail if they get too hot. In some mountainous areas, ramps of loose gravel are constructed to stop runaway trucks that have lost their brakes. The combination of a slight upward slope and a large coefficient of rolling friction as the truck tires sink into...- Naomi

Sam, Whose mass is 75kg(Work Energy Problem)
Okay, I re-solved the problem and got the correct answer. My method seemed to be correct. However, when I initially solved the problem, i did not account for the direction of the headwind (going against Sam). Because of this, I was getting an incorrect answer. Re-solved, my solution looked more...- Naomi

Sam, Whose mass is 75kg(Work Energy Problem)
Sam, whose mass is 75kg, starts down a 50-m-high, 20 degree frictionless slope. A strong headwind exerts a horizontal force of 200N on him as he skies. Use work and energy to find Sam's speed at the bottom. Hi! I'm new to posting on this website but thought I'd give it a go! I would really...- Naomi
