Thanks, very interesting, that would explain why releases are observed but small.
When you say, “core melting is something of a misnomer“ are you meaning to imply that as a practical matter it would be difficult to actually achieve temperatures high enough to melt the fuel pellets? If so...
Interesting article. Thanks for posting it Hologram0110.
I also was a little surprised they down blended. My frugal nature makes me cringe a little when I think of down blending. Your argument seems reasonable and I was hoping that others would jump-in with thoughts on what the issues...
Thanks for the reply. I’m surprised that there has not been more interest in this thread. It would be really interesting to hear from some of the guys who are currently working in the nuclear power business. DUPIC has some significant side benefits according to AECL:
Here are a couple of...
Just curious, has anyone heard anything lately regarding DUPIC, the direct use of PWR waste in CANDU reactors? What is going on?
Also a couple of questions relating to the process:
Since the name DUPIC specifically refers to PWR waste, does that imply that there is some issue with BWR...
This may be a dumb question, but you’ve got me doing this imaginary experiment in my head about the reason for increased neutron absorbtion caused by the Doppler broadening.
Suppose I had an imaginary neutron gun with which I could produce beams of mono-energetic neutrons and by turning a...
Thanks for the reply.
Let me try and restate what you said a little differently to see if I fully understand it.
With no Am243 present, as the core heats, the neutron energy increases. At higher neutron energies fewer U235 fissions occur and more neutrons are absorbed by the U238, both of...
I’m also in the Bay Area, but over the hill in Tri-Valley area. That sounds exactly like the problem I was having when I started this thread asking for help. I was getting 7 and 11 very clearly, but either broken or no signal for all others including 5. I thought that since I was getting 7...
Thanks, just something I've always wondered about. With the DTV antennas being so directional, I thought I might cheat and put a couple in parallel pointing at different towers.
Appreciate your letting me knnow!
Thanks guys, that was great help! The Sites allowed me to align the antenna with the towers for the stations I wanted and presto. I hadn’t realized that different local area stations are on different towers.
Really appreciate the help!
I hadn't realized at how sensitive the directional...
Thanks, that is an interesting. TMI-I cost the 400 million dollars and TMI-2 800 million dollars. So, doing the correction more accurately would yield:
Assumptions, using 2007 $:
Cost TMI-2 = 2544 million $
Cost of clean up = $973, over 12 years, use 1985 for adjustment...
One other question. If I were to purchase a second antenna would it be useful to mount it on the same pole and wire the two in parallel? Does this increase the signal strength or would the two interfere with each other?
Thanks Again
