You are mixing up torque (then bigger C produces more torque) with pressure (compression). See sketch. You need the following (or SIMILAR) if you want to apply more VERTICAL pressure on the SCALE. Then the more length you give to C the more pressure you apply. Note the blue dot must be fixed...
