Should I give up on astrophysics and study something else?

I don't pretend to know where the grads are going- just that they are apparently employed. (Including in grad school, I presume). The study was done by Georgetown, which is not a disreputable institution. It's just a data point for the OP to use, I'm sure he can track it down and decide for himself.

Should I give up on astrophysics and study something else?

Actually, astrophysics might be awesome right now Hey, I don't know that much about this as my field is nuclear, but I've got a friend who was trying to talk me into going into astrophysics and he told me about this: http://graphicsweb.wsj.com/documents/NILF1111/#term= In 2011...

Engineer who wants to do Mathematical Modelling.

I'm in a similar situation- although I do really like my field of engineering (nuclear) I want to do modeling & high performance computing. I'm looking for programs that have that as a formal option, or at least an area of research, so it's not really squeezing it in but more of a recognized...

Schools Research and Nuclear Engineering Grad School?

I posted a question a while back on medical physics and got great feedback so I'm back again in with another dilemma... I spent the summer doing med physics research and I liked the radiation physics and computational aspects of it quite a bit. I'd like to apply for grad school in nuclear...

Programs Physics major for medical school?

Ha, that could be! He was probably a child prodigy who was denied tenure somewhere, and turned to medicine in order to wreak revenge upon humanity. That was not a favorite show around my house, for sure. They all said he'd have been canned in a week no matter how brilliant he was. For my...

Residencies in Medical Physics difficult to obtain

As the lowly fodder for these programs  , could I ask if it would be useful to take the physics GRE if it's not required?

Programs Physics major for medical school?

I was (kind of) in the same position as you are in, I much prefer physics over biological sciences but my parents are both doctors so there's always been a lot of discussion about whether or not I would stay in the "family business", I guess you would say. I have a family member with a chem...

So which physics phds are useful for industry?

I have the same dilemma you have. I have a summer undergraduate fellowship in medical physics coming up, so I'm hoping to know which way to go by the end of it. I think it is getting to be a more specialized field- that is, people go into a medical physics program for their PhDs if that's what...

Residencies in Medical Physics difficult to obtain

Ok, I see where a residency is really necessary. That does makes sense to me now. But I don't understand is on the one hand you say getting a PhD in order to do clinical work is idiotic, but on the other hand you say residencies strongly prefer PhDs. And residencies are now required to work as a...

Residencies in Medical Physics difficult to obtain

Thanks for your insight. I'm just starting out on my med physics career, am a junior right now. I will be working in a med physicist's lab this summer. In a way I'm afraid of kind of falling in love with the field and then finding no jobs at the end of the rainbow. How are job prospects if you...

    Medical physics vs. Industry

I got one of the AAPM student Fellowships! I don't know who/where my mentor will be and I'm still waiting to hear from the national labs but I'm really excited about this. 99% sure I'll accept this offer no matter what, I can't see a down side to it.

    Medical physics vs. Industry

I think I can work it in if I make my decision by the end of the summer, otherwise I might need remedial courses in the bio end of things! Do you see the new medical Act having an impact? One of my parents is a Dr. and believes hospitals, etc. will really cut back on tech, and there's also...

    Medical physics vs. Industry

Thank you for your answer, Choppy. I'm really looking forward to an internship or REU this summer precisely because I haven't had the chance to experience a research environment in much depth before, and it's such an important part of a med physics degree that I really feel like I need it to...

    Medical physics vs. Industry

Hi and thanks in advance for any responses. I'm a Junior getting a degree in engineering physics, now trying to decide between a Masters in Nuclear Engineering and pursuing an MS/PhD in Medical Physics. I can finish the engineering MS in just two more years as I've already started on some...

    Undergrad requirements for Medical Physics

Good... I think I stand a lot better chance of getting biology worked in to my schedule, since there are so many class sections of it as compared to the rest. I saw the AAPM internships on their website, but there were only about five, so I thought I should look around for alternatives. That's...
