Undergrad When to Use Total Probability Formula and Bayes Formula?
Hello. I know that total probability formula is in Bayes formula/Theorem. But how do I know when I must use - total probability formula ? - Bayes formula? I want to know what is difference between total probability formula and Bayes formula/Theorem. I don't know when total...- philipSun

Undergrad Random variable, expected value,Variance
Can you formalize those solutions? I don't understand. Do you mean that expected value is 4 ? Mean = expected value? And because blue has 4 letters - no variation. so variance is Var(X) = E[4 − E(4)]^2 = 0 ??- philipSun

Undergrad Random variable, expected value,Variance
I do a little improvement. E(X) = Ʃ xi f(x)p(x) i:p(x)∈S x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 = 10. expected value = 10. Is this correct?Variance is Var(X) = E[X − E(X)]^2Var(X) = E[10 − E(4)]^2 = 6^2 = 36Variance = 36. Is this correct?- philipSun

Undergrad Random variable, expected value,Variance
Hi. I choose randomly a one word, and I decided to choose a word blue. Let random variable x be a length of the word blue. What is expected value and variance of a word blue? So, random variable x = 4. E(X) = [SIZE="5"]Ʃ xi fX(xi) i:xi∈S x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 = 10...- philipSun

Undergrad What is the probability of AA winning if they toss a coin more times than BB?
So probability that AA wins is P(AA wins-no. heads in bracket) = 1/8[3 heads]+(3/8)(3/4)[2 heads]+(3/8)(1/4)[1 head]=1/2 and solution is this. This wasn't easy for me. I want to say; thank you very much!- philipSun

Undergrad What is the probability of AA winning if they toss a coin more times than BB?
Hi. Yes, that's what I meant with; a = 1-3 * a b = 0-2 * a a wins In best case for BB; b = 1-2 * a a = 0-1 * a. But maybe you meant more than that. And I want to do this in this method; P(b) = P(a) P(b | a ) + P(a^c) P(b | a^c) or something like that. I believe that...- philipSun

Undergrad What is the probability of AA winning if they toss a coin more times than BB?
Hello everybody. I have a problem, which is following. AA tosses a coin 3 times and BB 2 times. AA will win, if he gets more heads than BB. What is the probability that AA wins? Total probability is probably needed in this. My solution: first, this formula, P(b) = P(a) P(b | a ) +...- philipSun
