Understanding the Quadruple Angle Identity for Cosine

Oh, thanks for catching my mistake. I think I can figure it out now but I don't see how you got from cos(4x) to 2 cos^2(2x)-1.

Understanding the Quadruple Angle Identity for Cosine

Homework Statement Simplify: cos(4θ) Homework Equations cos(2θ)=2cos^2(θ)-1 sin(2θ)=2sinθcosθ The Attempt at a Solution First, I broke it into cos(2θ+2θ). Then I expanded it and got cos(2θ)cos(2θ)-sin(2θ)sin(2θ). I then expanded that and got...

    Help w/ Math Proofs: cos(n∏+θ), ln|sec x|=-ln|cos x|

I'm having trouble with these two proofs. cos(n∏+θ)=(-1)^n cos θ ln|sec x|= -ln|cos x| I know for the first one that I have to incorporate log somehow but that's about all I got from it.

Help w/ projecetile motion w/ angled launch problem

Oh wow, that really helps thanks! I made this problem a whole lot more complex than it was because when I solved for Δt I solved for the vertical component for some reason...

Help w/ projecetile motion w/ angled launch problem

Well I started w/ the equation Vi cosθ=Δx/Δt and found that Vi= Δx/Δt*cosθ. Then I found Δt by using the equation Δx=(Vi)v*Δt+.5(Δt)^2 and got Δt=-(Vi sinθ±√Vi^2sin^2θ-2ghi)/g(everything from Vi^2 to 2ghi is under radical). Then I plugged in Δt and got: Vi=(Δx*g)/(cosθ(-Vi sinθ±√Vi^2sinθ-2ghi))...

Help w/ projecetile motion w/ angled launch problem

Homework Statement A bowling ball rolls off an angled roof. The roof is sloped downward at 18.4°, and the eaves are 12.0m above the ground. If it lands 2.0m away from the building how fast was it rolling when it left the roof(i.e find Vi). Homework Equations I know I have to use the...

Help w/ projecetile motion w/ angled launch problem

Well, here's the exact question. A bowling ball rolls off an angled roof. The roof is sloped downward at 18.4°, and the eaves are 12.0 meters above the ground. a.)How long does it take the ball it hit the ground?

Help w/ projecetile motion w/ angled launch problem

That's all the info to this problem and I would assume it's asking for how the ball takes to hit the ground after it's left the roof.

Homework Statement A bowling ball rolls off an angled roof. The roof is sloped downward at 18.4 degrees and it is 12m above the ground. The question is how long does it take the ball to hit the ground?Homework Equations Δx=viΔt+1/2a(Δt)^2 I know this is the equation I have to use but I'm having...
