Why is the current voting system in the UK flawed and how can it be improved?
Maybe there is and it's just that the people in this thread aren't well-versed in Game Theory...- physicsshiny

Why is the current voting system in the UK flawed and how can it be improved?
I vote for emotive/personal reasons more than anything else to be quite honest; I don't trust any of the main parties. Thing is, in the UK there's quite a lot of voter apathy and quite a lot of the people who are most fervent about voting also tend to support the more xenophobic parties. I'm...- physicsshiny

What did your School Reports say?
My school report cards from primary school weren't too great (I got restless because I found the material too easy). In secondary school (6th to 12th grade for Americans) I could only be there because of my academic scholarship and so I worked my ass off, making my reports look significantly...- physicsshiny

Is Love Real or Just an Artifact?
I think love does exist, in many different kinds of ways - romantic/sexual, affection for friends, or family bonding. I would very much like to have different words for them all, though. It's also still relevant in that being able to enjoy the company of other people, even if you don't...- physicsshiny

Hello everyone, I have a question to ask about becoming a physicist
I know people who have taken foundation years or gone back to school halfway through another degree (so in their early twenties, at the very least) and are doing really well in physics. OP, if I got the German grade system right, you're what? 15 or 16? It's definitely not too late for you to...- physicsshiny

Late Night Studying: Where Do You Go?
I prefer to work in my room, where my ridiculous number of textbooks (I borrowed most of them from the library, to be fair) live. It's quite quiet, which is good for me, and reasonably big to boot. I do like to study with classmates on occasion though...- physicsshiny

In your education system, is physics closer to maths or to chemistry?
Mhh, in the UK some universities still offer Natural Sciences as an undergraduate degree. At secondary school they're usually taught as separate subjects though. Over here physics seems to be viewed as closer to maths than to chemistry, I think.- physicsshiny

How Fast Does a Ball Travel When Dropped from 5 Meters?
hafiz, to answer your question: yes, there is a factor to do with the acceleration. So think about how acceleration affects the velocity of the ball with time.- physicsshiny

Help tidying up a partial derivative?
So there's no real way to tidy it up? And I agree, the question is strange, but that's what was written down. Thanks once again for everyone's help, I really appreciate it.- physicsshiny

Help tidying up a partial derivative?
The question is right. It's on a problem sheet all about partial differentiation and asks for the partial derivative of f(x,y) with respect to x.- physicsshiny

Help tidying up a partial derivative?
Thanks for all advice - so \frac{\sin(x)-x\cos(x)}{\sin^2(x)}? Or its derivative? (Sorry. Feeling a lot more tired than when I made this post and thus more prone to misinterpret things.)- physicsshiny

Help tidying up a partial derivative?
Homework Statement Find \frac{\partial f}{\partial x} if f(x,y)=\cos(\frac{x}{y}) and y=sinx Homework Equations See above The Attempt at a Solution For \frac{\partial f}{\partial x} I calculated -\frac{1}{y}\sin(\frac{x}{y}) which comes out as \frac{-\sin(\frac{x}{\sin(x)})}{sinx} and this...- physicsshiny

What is the Importance of Collaboration in Scientific Research?
Umm...well, I'm pretty obviously new here. At the moment I'm in my first year and hopefully working towards an MPhys with a year in Europe along the way. Mostly I joined because I sometimes get annoyingly stuck on things, but if I can help answer anyone's questions then I'm more than happy to do...- physicsshiny
