Undergrad What is the physical cause behind time dilation?
Not sure if this post will be helpful, so please take it with a grain of salt, from someone still very much learning the ropes... I’ve often pictured the physics of time dilation this way (amalgamated from several sources): from the perspective of a ground based observer looking at a person in...- poetryphysics

Undergrad Index notation for inverse Lorentz transform
Thanks vanhees71 and Orodruin! Your posts have been a great help, and I think I’m more on my way to understanding the differences between these two notations now. I am reading Schutz GR, which uses one notation, and Srednicki QFT, which uses the other...- poetryphysics

Undergrad Index notation for inverse Lorentz transform
Thanks very much for your reply, this issue has been bothering me for days now! Is the problem that I should’ve written this as $$x^{\overline{\mu}}x_{\overline{\mu}}= \Lambda^{\overline{\mu}}_{\;\alpha}(\vec{v})x^{\alpha}\Lambda^{\beta}_{\;\overline{\mu}}(-\vec{v})x_{\beta}$$ I wasn’t sure...- poetryphysics

How Challenging Is a PhD in QCD Theory?
Hi all, my name’s Gary, and I’m a PhD student at the CUNY graduate center, trying to do my dissertation on QCD theory (color glass condensate). Have been browsing here a bit over the years, and got around to making an account today!- poetryphysics

Undergrad Index notation for inverse Lorentz transform
Hi all, just had a question about tensor/matrix notation with the inverse Lorentz transform. The topic was covered well here, but I’m still having trouble relating this with an equation in Schutz Intro to GR... So I can use the following to get an equation for the inverse...- poetryphysics
