Graduate Length contraction and time dilation in spacetime
I can totally agree that no frame of reference or now slice can be preferred over the other, and that they are equally real. I believe Einstein once said that there is only now (stretching out over whole of time), each piece of it equally real. However I found multiple examples on the internet...- Quinto

Graduate Length contraction and time dilation in spacetime
It appears the Lorentz transformation in fact calculates which 3D reflection of the 4D world each observer sees. Relative velocity between two observers results in their 3D reflection, or "now slice" being tilted relative to each other. It would seem to me as if nature requires that the 3D...- Quinto

Graduate Length contraction and time dilation in spacetime
Thank you for your replies. The diagrams nicely show how time dilation and length contraction result from Lorenz transformation. I also understand that Lorentz transformation is at the basis of "now slicing" which is often practiced in block universe models. However, I cannot get my head around...- Quinto

Graduate Length contraction and time dilation in spacetime
Observers that pass each other with a relative speed close to the speed of light will observe length contraction and time dilation at the other observer. In a spacetime diagram, this would be represented by two worldlines making an angle, right? Some textbooks suggest that some of the length...- Quinto
