Damped Oscillation Homework: Calculating b & Q for Lightly Damped System
Homework Statement A damped oscillator of mass m=1,6 kg and spring constant s=20N/m has a damped frequency of \omega' that is 99% of the undamped frequency \omega. As found out by me: The damping constant b is 0.796 kg/s. Q of the system is 7.1066 kg^-1. Are the units here right? The...- razor108

How Do Oscillator Configurations Affect Energy and Damping?
Yes, I got it now. The series one adds as in series therefore 1/stotal=1/s1+1/s2 and the other one like parallel therefore stotal=s1+s2. Wouldn't have thought this because experience actually told me that it shouldn't be so much of a difference... I mean ii) has 4 times more total energy than...- razor108

How Do Oscillator Configurations Affect Energy and Damping?
Homework Statement For a mass m hung vertically from a spring with spring constant s, the restoring Force is F=-sx where x is the displacement from equilibrium. a)What are the periods of the two harmonic oscillators i) and ii). b)Assuming eaqch oscillator is moving with the same...- razor108
