Undergrad Simple trigonometry / geometry question. Diagram included
Hey all, BACKGROUND: (please note that knowledge of this is not necessary): I'm currently writing a javascript application using vectors (with jquery and raphaeljs) that enables me to rotate custom text (using font.js file, not normal fonts). However, due to a bug in the new version of raphael...- rekshaw

Sequence monotonic homework problem help
Bounded means, it will reach a point where it will stop increasing more and more quickly. For example, if you had just 1/x^2, it will get smaller and smaller and smaller until the increment is tiny and the sum of the sequence will end up converging to a number. your sequence is 4n + 1/n ...- rekshaw

High School Understanding Conditional Probability: Formulas and Logic Explained
Hey! you mean P(A|B) right? P(A/B) could be mistaken for P(A\B) ..the difference. Anyways, the concept behind this definition (debatably an axiom), is very simple. Imagine a Venn Diagram with A and B as two circles crossing each other giving rise to a shared mid-section. P(A) = [outcomes...- rekshaw

High School Have I found a new math trick for multiplication?
Cool, I still have to read the rest of it, I just wanted to let you know about this: EDIT: Ok I read all of it. Uhm...I never heard about the 10x-x method, and I tried doing one calculation with your method and one different calculation with the 10x-x method which you explained at the bottom...- rekshaw

High School Simple recurring sequence (1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, )
trivial yet my mind is blank, I'm wayyy overthinking this! Was just thinking of a simple sequence to test-drive on my calculator, and this one came up in my mind (the sequence terms, not the sequence itself...) I've been trying for the past hour to find a simbolic representation of a... -

What Is the Maximum Area of a Gothic Window With Given Constraints?
I'm assuming your shape is like this? /\ |_| Since the top has to be an equilateral triangle you know that 3 segments have to be equal (if the base of the triangle counts as a segment). Then you have 3 segments left over to play with (the sides below the triangle and the base of the window)- rekshaw

Swine Flu: Potential Threat to Human Species?
I was watching the CNN couple of days ago and a spokesman was arguing that the epidemic is actually way to over-blown by the media and that even though it helps to keep everyone on such a high alert, it is really unnecessary as it is far from being really dangerous.- rekshaw

Thanks :D Now I got 2 down. So when there is a gravitational FORCE, we use an inverse SQUARE law. OK. Anyone got any other explanations for the other ones? I was told that the formulas were force, field, potential and energy...which is which? :S -

Graduate Is Time Truly a Uni-Dimensional Force?
There is a fantastic video on youtube called Measuring the 11th Dimension or words to that effect (youtube is blocked here in china so I can't check..im an expat) but it defines time as our 4th dimension and states that our inability to measure it as any other dimension is due to the fact that...- rekshaw

High School Safety During Explosions: What to Do
Is the wall between you and the explosion? If so, then the logical answer would be that the wall absorbs most of the shockwaves produced by the explosion and protects you from the high quantities of heat produced. However, there is always the danger that the wall crumbles and takes you down...- rekshaw

Undergrad Understand Fields & Forces: 4 Formulas & 6 Motion Formulas
I apologize in advance if this is supposed to go in the homework section, but this is not homework, it is just my inability to grasp the topic no matter what textbook I read. So, here is my question. I have been taught 4 formulas for "Fields and Forces" F = \frac{GMm}{r^{2}} F =...
