Okay that's actually really not helpful. The BBC said that if that proton at CERN was faster than light, that it would arrive at it's destination before it set off. That was the point I was trying to make. Thanks for your warm welcome btw.

Hi I'm new and an idiot so please don't burn me, I wouldn't have come to a specialist forum if I could have found the answer in a more mainstream place. Anyway, can somebody please explain to me in layman's terms why, if one could travel faster than the speed of light, they'd go back in time...
