    Mann-Whitney U Test: p=1.0 - Should I Report z = 0.0001?

Hmmm now that's odd. SPSS is some weird stuff, it works just totally against your instincts. I think resolving the problem by saying p=0.99 doesn't solve the problem... It might be that your data is rounded, which might just make the difference between 0.99 and 1.00. SPSS usually uses 2.2...

Mann-Whitney test pivotal quantity & randomized block design

Sorry for posting this in the wrong forum. I didn't knew wether this was a homework question or not, since I have a question about a method instead of about homework.. Please move post to right section if moderator thinks otherwise!

    Mann-Whitney U Test: p=1.0 - Should I Report z = 0.0001?

I don't think SPSS sorts for that. How have you entered your data in SPSS, since that might sometimes do the trick. You might just have entered it the wrong way. Try to transpose your data and see what SPSS then comes up with if you do the same...

Mann-Whitney test pivotal quantity & randomized block design

Hi there, I have a question about an assignment I got from school. They were initially 12 assignments, I've finished 10 so far but I still can't figure how my last 2 assignments work. First there is the question; Prove that W1(δ) and U1(δ) are pivotal quantities, where W1(δ) = sum of...

How Do You Calculate the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound for θ?

Hi there, I've got a distribution function for an assignment for my school here and I don't get the hang of the question; f(x) = θ* 2^θ * x^(-θ-1) for x>2 0 for else The assignment is to calculate the Cramer-Rao lower boundry for consistent estimators...

What is the meaning and purpose of span in matrix algebra?

Ah right that makes sense. So would my statement be correct if I'd add that the "linear combination scalars" may not be 0, with that I mean that aX+bY+cZ=0, and not a nor b nor c are 0. Then the vectors would be linearly dependent making them a linear combination with each other as well... Am I...

What is the meaning and purpose of span in matrix algebra?

Is it by the way alright to say that if vector X and vector Y are linearly dependent, then the 0-vector is a linear combination of vector X and vector Y? Or that if vector X, vector Y and vector Z are linearly dependent, that Z is a linear combination of X and Y, from which automatically follows...

What is the meaning and purpose of span in matrix algebra?

Ah your right, I knew that, my mistake, sorry about that :P ... It's just that the whole Linear Algebra-thing is new to me, so don't bother to tell me when I'm making a little mistake, it's gives me opportunity for me to learn from this again and again (and that's the reason why I'm here!)...

What is the meaning and purpose of span in matrix algebra?

VeeEight and Mark44 many thanks for your response. I do know what a linear combination is, at least, I think I know. My book has learned me that if vector X and vector Y are linear combinations, aX+bY should give me the 0-vector, or if Z is a linear combination of X and Y then aX + bY should...

What is the meaning and purpose of span in matrix algebra?

Hi there! My name is Sander, and I'm a (dutch) Econometrics student at the Rotterdam Erasmus University. This is my first year and I'm getting an introduction to "Matrix Algebra", which is (I think, shoot me if I'm wrong..) quite the same as Linear Algebra (since the book we use is called...
