Undergrad Significant Physical/Chemical Change Found by Sign Reversal?
We know that "plastic" and "glass" charges were arbitrarily assigned to be negative and positive respectively, and electrons and protons were given their charges based upon that assignment (According to Randall D. Knight in Physics for Scientists and Engineers). I am curious if any significant...- Silverhobbiest

Thermodynamics Energy transfer question
I initially did it this way and got 59.4 °C, but that was incorrect. That is what led me to believe that there was boundary work involved because the process takes place inside of a piston cylinder system. So, why isn't boundary work supposed to be considered in this process?- Silverhobbiest

Thermodynamics Energy transfer question
Homework Statement In a frictionless piston-cylinder system, there are 3 kg of R-134a initially at 280 kPa and 15 °C. Heat is transferred to the system in the amount 120 kJ. What will the final temperature of the refrigerant be (deg C)? Homework Equations Q - W = ΔU (internal energy) Q - Wb...- Silverhobbiest

Can someone help me chose a motor for my hand drill?
I just planned on using a DPDT momentary ON/OFF/ON switch to reverse polarity. But being able to lock it woud be useful as well and I'm not quite sure how to do that. As for how to make the clutch, I planned on using the chucks below since I have some handy. However, i'd prefer to use ones that...- Silverhobbiest

Can someone help me chose a motor for my hand drill?
Background: (I'm a beginner) I plan on using PCV pipe for the main body. The drill's purpose will be to install screws into pre-cut groves (basically a motorized screwdriver). These screws will be only a couple centimeters tall so the motor will only need a moderate amount of torque and rpm. It...- Silverhobbiest
