Undergrad Latent heat of fusion for water question
I did use J/gC for specific heat. The operation you are proposing cancels all units and leaves you with a dimensionless number if i am looking at it correctly. Thank you for trying to help, I think we might be on different pages. I found something more geared towards what I'm looking for here...- soronemus

Undergrad Latent heat of fusion for water question
4.21/334 is not 79 you are correct, it is .0125. The problem is that I still have the C unit left in the denominator when everything else cancels. I would think that you would have to take the inverse of .0125 (79) to get the temperature unit into the numerator and get my answer. My notation on...- soronemus

Undergrad Latent heat of fusion for water question
Hello, I am doing some research involving supercooled water flash freezing into ice. I am doing some calculations and I think that I must be wrong judging by my result. Using the latent heat of fusion of water, and the specific heat of water, I can calculate a temperature value which should...- soronemus

Archived Maximizing Flow Rate in a Water Pipe: Accounting for Pipe Losses
Homework Statement What is the maximum flow rate that can be seen in a water pipe where city water is supplied to a building. The pressure behind the water is 50psi, and the inner diameter of the pipe is 2". Homework Equations bernoulli's principle The Attempt at a Solution I...- soronemus

What are the considerations for live load ratings in structural design?
You the man SteamKing. So it is definitely treated differently for structures than it is for solid parts like I usually deal with as a mechanical engineer. When they determine that the live load rating is 100 PSF what assumptions are made? For example is that the 3000 pounds of force can be...- soronemus

What are the considerations for live load ratings in structural design?
So I'm looking at some technical drawings here (mechanical engineering co-op) and the live load rating is 100 pounds per square foot (PSF) for this particular drawing. My question is this: why is it so low? Just me standing with my feet together exerts roughly 230 pounds per square foot (i'm...- soronemus

Fully restrained beam moment diagram
When combining the fixed end reactions using superposition, are you just adding them? For example the moment at A would be the sum of the moments at A for each of the three loads? If so I think I have finished. Here is a link to a google doc containing the shear and bending moment diagram I came...- soronemus

Fully restrained beam moment diagram
For my case, (http://imgur.com/XmgNq11) how do I find the equivalent force (P)? I was thinking sum the moments about one of the supports to find a force and distance that gives an equal moment but I would have to use the reaction moment/force at the other end, which I don't know. Is there a...- soronemus

Fully restrained beam moment diagram
The problem I'm running into is that I cannot construct the shear and moment diagram with the information given after they sum the forces and the moments, it is statically indeterminate. I can get equations for the reactions but I have too many unknowns. Are you saying to just construct the...- soronemus

Fully restrained beam moment diagram
Sweet! I knew it had to be something simple like that. If you have enough patience for another question, where are the 'force-displacement relations' coming from? I have tried google searching but wasn't having much luck on that specific subject as it relates to the form these equations are in...- soronemus

Fully restrained beam moment diagram
Thanks for the reply, I was looking at the pdf you linked for a while before I posted here and was having trouble following along as they seem to skip steps. In particular, in example 10-4 (which if I can work through is very similar to part of my problem) they go straight to an equation R_a=...- soronemus
