Engineering Chemistry vs chemical engineering in MS and PhD
Thanks for the kind words. I suppose there's not much more left to discuss other than enroll and start proving people wrong..- spectastic

tesla also would've been much more successful had he not been screwed over by vicious sharks like edison or jp morgan, people who unfortunately has taken over the corporate world nowadays and who shape how people view capitalism. I don't mean to be negative or anything like that. I would never...- spectastic

let's clear up some things here.. you were the one who brought up the terms "high tech," or "change the world," or "campus of big ideas." I never referred to any of these things, and I've got a glimpse of industry such that I'm not naive enough to believe in them either. you're right, the lack...- spectastic

in the tech industry, there's this Moore's law that correctly predicted the doubling of a cpu's computing power every 2 years. People are recognizing that batteries have lagged way behind in comparison, and there is now a much greater emphasis on driving the price down and improving the energy...- spectastic

high tech.. where i worked. Ha... if by high tech you mean ancient chemistry developed in the 60s, then sure. to my knowledge, today's high tech in that part of my field largely revolves around automation of said technologies. I don't think I missed much... The water treatment guys I worked...- spectastic

Engineering Chemistry vs chemical engineering in MS and PhD
I'd like to enjoy what I do for a living, and be always learning new things. I feel like with most BS jobs, one reaches a learning plateau pretty quickly. For instance, as a process engineer in oil/gas, there usually isn't much new stuff going on. It's the baby boomers teaching the younger guys...- spectastic

Engineering Chemistry vs chemical engineering in MS and PhD
Money, interesting career, stability, all of the above. The biggest driver for me is fulfillment in my career. I used to work in utilities at my chemical plant - old boilers, cooling towers, etc. I knew this wasn't the line of work I was interested in. Thought out college, I did research, and...- spectastic

Engineering Chemistry vs chemical engineering in MS and PhD
I used to be a chemical engineer for a bad company that treats its employees very poorly. Ever since leaving that place, I've been trying to transition into the tech industry, because it's where all the new, and exciting stuff happens. I'm particularly interested in battery technology, because I...- spectastic

What Are the Best Resources for Learning About Polymers?
yes, but without a phd, I'll be limited in what I can do in terms of research. most scientists have PhD's, and those with masters and bachelors level degrees are typically the lab techs who do the grunt work. to my knowledge, there isn't much upward mobility in research without a phd I wouldn't...- spectastic

Guidance needed in prototype development
soo...I'm too stupid to understand from a drawing what that thing is? Is there a gif or something that would let me visualize it better? btw, internally geared hubs like the one you suggested are efficient when they're in the direct drive (1:1 gear ratio; or really, no gears), but they...- spectastic

What Are the Best Resources for Learning About Polymers?
I want to do research in polymers, and would like to build somewhat of a knowledge base before committing to a specific area. I'd like to spend 2 hrs/day just reading stuff and learning more about the field, and apply for Fall '15. I have some research experience from my undergrad, knows a good...- spectastic

Why is a vibration that reaches natural frequency so detrimental?
when I took diff eq, the professor explained resonance with a differential equation. (one of those that doesn't converge, but grow in amplitude - can't think of the word)... he associated that equation to resonance which led to the collapse of that bridge. I think it was one of these equations...- spectastic

it increases your output without increasing the input (assuming cost of operation is zero). It counts in my opinion.- spectastic

btw. I'm not very familiar with solar thermal energy, but I highly doubt you would be able to efficiently run a steam/condensate system through your car...- spectastic

Solar panels on the top of a vehicle
isn't 30% pretty lenient on the energy efficiency of your solar panel? I think those are the high dollar ones that they would use on a satellite or something, and even those have less than 30% I think. Most solar panels are in the 15-17% for silicon based, and at most 11% for the cheap organic...- spectastic
