Courses Undergrad Classes: Picking Electives for Next Fall
Yes, I've taken calc 1, calc 2, multivariable, linear algebra, and next semester I'll take math methods and statistical mechanics. I'm struggling with doing what's required/expected of me and also trying new things as an undergrad. I love physics but because I'm still young I also want to learn...- StrangeCharm

Courses Undergrad Classes: Picking Electives for Next Fall
Yes, I understand this, and I am taking math courses that are required towards my physics degree. I could take additional classes like real analysis and abstract algebra, but I'm not majoring in math so I don't think it'll be that useful towards my degree or even practical depending on what job...- StrangeCharm

Courses Undergrad Classes: Picking Electives for Next Fall
Next fall I'll be a junior, and I'm wondering what classes besides physics I should take. I'm already on track to taking the necessary physics courses so that I can complete my degree. I'm just wondering what electives I should take. Introduction to computer science? Geology? Creative writing? I...- StrangeCharm

Schools Undergrad college choice for physics
Hey, I'm a female physics major at a small liberal arts college on the east coast. I just want to throw in my opinion. At my school, the physics department is great. Class sizes are small and professors are very supportive and friendly. It's common for undergrads to do research with profs, and...- StrangeCharm

Declared Physics Major - Exciting News!
Thanks! I go to a small liberal arts college on the east coast. I'm finishing up my sophomore year so I still have time to discover what areas of physics interest me most. I plan on taking statistical mechanics and thermo next semester though and maybe study abroad next spring.- StrangeCharm

Programs Is Studying Abroad Feasible for Physics Majors?
I've seen some discussions about studying abroad, but I wanted to post my own to get more recent comments. I'm an undergrad in a US college and looking into studying abroad for a semester. However, I've noticed that it's not as common for STEM majors to study abroad as it is for humanities...- StrangeCharm

(Happening again) career vs relationship
There's a saying that goes something like "Know thyself before you get to know others." IMO, it's important to establish your own views, goals, etc. and have some stability before entering a serious relationship. Nevertheless, as you become older, you should be at that point or getting to the...- StrangeCharm

Physics Choosing Between a Career in Physics or Medicine: A Personal Dilemma
IMO don't become a doctor if you're not passionate about it because it takes a certain mindset to make it through undergrad, med school, and as a doctor. Being a doctor isn't just a career; it's a way of life. I know people who are on call 24/7, have high stress, and do little else besides...- StrangeCharm

What criteria are used to evaluate research in academia?
It's great that you want to be physics teacher! I strongly believe that we need teachers who: 1) teach well (i.e. really know their material and do a good job of conveying it to others) 2) serve as a mentor to students and help them succeed 3) inspire students to pursue different subjects (in...- StrangeCharm
