OK. I've decided the main problem here is my lack of knowledge in the mathematics, as well as a lot of the things you're referring to in your first reply. I guess what I was looking for was an explanation in layman's terms as to why time dilation isn't simply explained as a perception alone...

I feel like my understanding the concept of the speed of light being an isotropic constant is the basis for my entire argument, although I may have not made it very clear. My concern is with SR/GR being defined as what it is, rather than what seems to me is a postulate for time dilation...
