What is the general solution to the 2nd order linear ODE xy''+2y'+4xy=0?
No I didn't, but exponentials match the wolfram alpha solution. Can you maybe explain how you got the exponentials?- sydneyfranke

What is the general solution to the 2nd order linear ODE xy''+2y'+4xy=0?
Homework Statement Find general solution to: xy''+2y'+4xy=0 Homework Equations Frobenius Method or Bessel's Equation The Attempt at a Solution I know how to get the roots for this problem (which are r1 = 0 & r2 = -1). But not I don't know what to do with these roots. I know that...- sydneyfranke

Aerospace Engineering vs. Astrophysics: Which Path Best Advances Space Travel?
Well, IMHO space flight is limited to Mars. Seriously. If you want to revolutionize space travel, either learn how to make the universe smaller, or get into space structures. Light speed is pretty much the limit for speed. Even if we achieve that, we are talking about light YEARS, and a lot of...- sydneyfranke

Which EE Fields Are Currently in Demand?
According to bls.gov, none. Unless you are willing to work oversees for cheap cause that's where all of those jobs are going. Sucks cause I really like my Circuits class (well, sucks for a lot of other reasons).- sydneyfranke

Does it matter where you take an internship?
Sophomore Mechanical engineering major. Will declare Aerospace minor once I have the prerequisites. I would like to eventually work in the aerospace discipline, however my state does not have a university that offers the aero major. A big part of me says "take what you can get," when it comes...- sydneyfranke

Physics Is russian useful for a physicist?
What about someone wanting to work in Aerospace? The "blurry future job opportunities" is an excellent point, but I mean we are riding their rockets up to space right now. They are clearly one of the leaders in the space community at this time, and a global alliance seems to be the only answer...- sydneyfranke

Engineering Help choosing Engineering field
As a ME major, I would have to suggest that you study something else so that there is one less person for me to compete with (completely joking). I myself was originally studying EE until I researched bls.gov (which has also been mentioned). They show a 3% overall job growth over the next 10...- sydneyfranke

How to function with sleep deprivation
LOL. Yes, REM cycles. I didn't even notice that I spelled it that way. Rapid Eye Movement. Thanks. As far as training yourself, I believe its possible because I've been trying it myself. I stick to around 6 hours a night, and feel rested throughout the day. One thing that I have noticed though...- sydneyfranke

How to function with sleep deprivation
What about RIM cycles? I've read where a RIM cycle takes ~3 hours to complete. With that said, a 3 hour sleep is more effective than a 4 or 5 hour sleep just because how our brain fluctuates in activity. That would have to assume that 6 hours would be more efficient than 7 or 8 hours. Also, 20...- sydneyfranke

It's cause we all can count and realize that if we take more hours we can finish sooner! The way I see it is if I want to be an engineer, I should go ahead and get used to the pressure! :)- sydneyfranke

Scholarship Essays: Get Insight into What Committees Look For
Just a quick question. I have some essays to write for this scholarship and I just wanted to maybe get some insight into what committees often look for. I have 3 of the five written so far, and I really just tried to be genuine and personable. Is this a wise route or should I go more strict...- sydneyfranke
