First-order differential equation
Hello, I have just worked this problem and had issue with getting 5.129s as an answer also. The only thing i don't understand is why the differential equation has -mg and not mg. Shouldn't this term be mg if the ball is falling because gravity is speeding it up not slowing it down?Thanks- TheIconoclast

Proving the Set Operation (A ∪ B) - (A ∩ B) = (A - B) ∪ (B - A)
Ok i was thinking about these operations the wrong way. I've only had one lecture on set theory so I its expected. Thank you very much. You've helped my understanding on the matter.- TheIconoclast

Proving the Set Operation (A ∪ B) - (A ∩ B) = (A - B) ∪ (B - A)
Sorry I am confused. What exactly do you mean by x is automatically in A-B?- TheIconoclast

Proving the Set Operation (A ∪ B) - (A ∩ B) = (A - B) ∪ (B - A)
Well I've tried many different variations but the one I'm looking at now is this: Let x belong to (A-B)U(B-A) (x belongs to A and x does not belong to B) or ((x belongs to B)-(x belongs to A)) I chose this side of the equation because on the other side there are two operations (union, and...- TheIconoclast

Proving the Set Operation (A ∪ B) - (A ∩ B) = (A - B) ∪ (B - A)
Sorry, I wrote linear algebra because we are having to learn this in my linear algebra class. Thanks for the correction. It seems like I have tried everything i can think of. I have began by letting x belong to one side of the equation and logically taking that side apart to turn it into the...- TheIconoclast

Proving the Set Operation (A ∪ B) - (A ∩ B) = (A - B) ∪ (B - A)
Homework Statement Hi, I am having trouble trying to prove the following operation: (A union B)-(A intersect B)=(A-B)union(B-A) given that: A-B = {x:x belong to A and x does not belong to B}. Thank you! Homework Equations The Attempt at a Solution- TheIconoclast

Graduate Nothing can travel faster than light
Thanks for the Posts everyone. I enjoy reading what you have to say. And I enjoy correcting myself. Living Dog: We actually do work at a local grocery store haha It's called HEB. Its kinda like kroger if you've ever seen that. I'll be majoring in physics beginning this year. I can hardly wait.- TheIconoclast

Thank you Fredrik. I suppose next time I see him at work I will tell him he is partially correct. I'm sure he doesn't know what a tachyon is. And I can't believe i forgot about them.- TheIconoclast

Graduate Nothing can travel faster than light
Is that a completely correct statement? I had a discussion with a co-worker the other day (while checking out a customer at a local grocery store lol) about the statement above. I firmly made the argument that nothing can travel faster than light with the exception of inflation and...- TheIconoclast

Great thread because I can relate! Null I like your perspective because it is mine also. I cared somewhat in high school but not to the extent that I do now. Its a rush of motivation and inclination unlike anything before. I'll start my freshman year this fall at the University of Texas at...- TheIconoclast
