Equation for Citric acid reacting with Sodium hydrogen-carbonate

Nice! Yea, that definitely sounds more right than what I was doing. Thanks Borek. theLHR

    PChem Question: pV work reversibility/irreversibility

Hey Mapes, I see what you're saying. Now it all makes sense. Thanks! theLHR

Equation for Citric acid reacting with Sodium hydrogen-carbonate

Hey Borek, If that what you're saying is true, then could you please show me by writing a balanced equation so I can see where your charges are going? Charges must be conserved on either side of the equation so if it is just water solvating the ions then you end up +3 on the product side which...

    PChem Question: pV work reversibility/irreversibility

Hey Mapes, Sorry for the slow response - I had to mull over what you said. It definitely makes sense what you're saying. Essentially the gas will always equilibrate slower (even if only a picosecond) than me removing the brick. Due to this, the gas will need to use some of it's internal energy...

Equation for Citric acid reacting with Sodium hydrogen-carbonate

Hey Sirsh So you balanced your equation almost correctly for both stoichiometric equivalents and charge, great! Except this is indeed the wrong product formation. One thing to notice is that your main carbon molecule (citric acid) never gains an oxygen while your bicarbonate magically loses...

    PChem Question: pV work reversibility/irreversibility

Hi, Here's an idea I can't quite figure out the answer to. If we were to set up a container of an ideal gas (say He) that had a movable lid such that the lid did not interact with the walls to generate friction or the like. On top of the lid we place a brick which is able to hold the lid...
