How can I prevent my lever from flexing when in motion?

CC BY-SA isn't really what you want. It restricts distribution unless you comply with certain conditions. You should use CC0 if you're interested in not restricting distribution of the information. CC BY is asking for a kind of social payment and puts an extra burden on anyone else using it.

How can I prevent my lever from flexing when in motion?

I think the problem shown in this picture is not caused by the beam moving but by the camera rotating. If it were simply moving up/down then the foreground would be more severely affected than the background. It looks like it's rotating so that it sweeps out large arcs at distance objects. So...

Optics and fluid dynamics simulation software

Yea I'm not sure if the arty raytracers are accurate enough. Blender is primarily a modelling program, though it might have ray-tracing capabilities too. kghandi - Interesting to see simulation apps on mobile now.

Optics and fluid dynamics simulation software

Look at OpenFOAM for the fluids which is free and very powerful - it's the internal solver of some high priced commercial software. For optics, maybe a raytracer is what you're after? Eg POVRay.

Is free (or very cheap) FEA software really available and worth it?

I eventually got to looking into Mecway (http://mecway.com) and I feel I should say something about it here. As a Lisa user, I have to say it's very impressive! It's clearly based on Lisa but absolutely full of enhancements even though it's the same price (both are now $100). Things just feel...

Max Load for 12ft Steel Ladder on 65 Deg Angle

I don't think this is a good idea at all. It may well fail at the joints, such as where the rungs connect to the side rails. These are being ignored if you treat it as a single beam. You really need to analyse the joints and the rung holding the load too, possibly with finite element analysis...

Newbie question regarding vacuum pump kill switch

Google vacuum pressure switch. But do you really want to switch the pump off? Won't that release the vacuum? How much vacuum is it?

Is free (or very cheap) FEA software really available and worth it?

I was on Alibre forum and someone there mentioned there is a new product called Mecway that is basically a more advanced version of Lisa. http://forum.alibre.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=17263 Here is a list of features shown on their website, but I haven't had time to play with it yet.
