Damn, we are getting off topic...

Other Mathematics: A Key to Understanding Metaphysics?

Supposedly, but it's often not regarded as a proof. Even at the time of publishment, Antoine Arnauld criticized Descartes for his circular reasoning in God and the truth rule.

Other Mathematics: A Key to Understanding Metaphysics?

My bad... I always thought it was before (as in, metaphysics comes before physics; it is the basis of physics, not vice versa). And sorry about that, I was thinking it was more a topic about Math, but I understand.

Other Mathematics: A Key to Understanding Metaphysics?

Literally "before physics"; the study of the fundamental things of the Universe. Not a perfect definition, but it's okay... Some common themes of Metaphysics are "is there a God?", "is life deterministic?", and "what is?"

Other Mathematics: A Key to Understanding Metaphysics?

Metaphysics is a strong interest of mine, as is Philosophy in general. I also enjoy Math, and more importantly, I recognize some mathematical concepts are needed for Metaphysics. A simple example is the concept of infinity (what it is). I'm asking, are there any courses, or even books on...

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?

Do you know what kind of math this usually entails? I understand you're trying to say that there is enjoyment in achievement, but I always find it to be overshadowed by the pain to get it. That's why I want to know if the math is the kind I enjoy, or the kind that is "painful", so to speak.

Practicality is important, but it's more important that I enjoy what I do.

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?

I understand the importance, but it doesn't matter if I won't enjoy it. I can always just study whatever math interests me on my own time, in case university programs have too much math I don't like. But might I like such a program?

Other Should I Become a Mathematician?

Hello fellow academics. I'm not interested in pursuing a career directly related to math, but I enjoy it to an extent, and so I'm thinking of doing a minor or secondary major in math (primary major is philosophy). Basically, I find myself loving some aspects, and hating others, so I want to know...
