Thanks for the prompt reply.
What are these positions that a PhD is essential for?
And
You said yes for 1)... Is it possible to give me some job titles/sections within these industries where physicist might be employed?
Thanks for your time,
Justin.
Pretty much what the thread name is asking. How important is a PhD for a career in Physics?
Also, are physicists employed in the solar or nuclear industries? What are the prospects of getting a job in these industries like, and is a PhD vital for these careers?
Thanks,
Justin.
Well I know here we have the Equal Employment Opportuniy law which basically states that it's illegal to discriminate via race, sex, age etc. I think it might even state that the more disadvantaged person should get the job providing both candidates are equally qualified. But in saying that...
I can't recommend you any books as I'm from Australia and we probably have different standards to the US (which is where I'm assuming you're from) but I stumbled across a website set up by a past nobel piece prize winner in physics. The site basically starts you from step 1 of everything which...
I'll have to look into the laws in Australia but I can't see them being much different to the US. I was hoping the scientific community would be a little more accomodating when it came to things such as age, I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Excellent.
Thanks for your time fss.
EDIT: Also what are your views on starting at 22? Do employers look for younger university graduates or is there no difference?
Hey fss here's the general outline of the units involved in the physics major at my university:

Before I start, though, I'll be doing the MATH130 unit which is a prerequisite for the MATH135 unit in the 1st...
Hey there.
Can anyone tell me the types of mathematics you encounter in a 1st year physics degree. I haven't opened a maths book since high school, which was about 5 years ago, and I was by no means a math whizz back in school. I'm going to choose basic math units to ease me back into it but...
AlexES16: Thanks for your reply, I'll be sure to give thoses links you gave me a thorough read.
It looks as if you're having trouble finding what to study at a tertiary level (I read your thread) and my advice to you would be choose what you enjoy more. With either degree (EE, ChE, Physics)...
Hey there, I joined up to ask a question about careers in physics and the renewable energy industries. I'm curious as to how a physics degree would help in pursuing a career in green energies and the type of job title I'd be looking into applying for. The renewable industries are preferrable but...
