No, but they are spread over a lot of countries  .

When you compare Association football and American football, it is easy to notice that
(i) Injuries are much more probable in American football
(ii) American football is much more expensive
(iii) It's too violent (reminds me of fully armoured tanks battling)

Besides,
you have a ball and you play with your feet, so football.
I wonder why Americans call American football as football ?
From what I have seen most of the passing and running is done with the ball in the hands. Handball would have been a better name.

Football(ie, the one you play with the feet) is nice to play and the rules are very simple (except the offside rule). Very little equipment is required.
It's also a free-flowing game and exciting to watch.
Besides, you can scream anything as long as the ref doesn't hear it.

The NFC? The AFC? Please, there are no better leagues this year, it is just the Colts and The Rest.

The Giants suck, they barely beat the Eagles, the Bears have always sucked, they just have a good record, same for the Panthers, I guess the only team in the NFC that has been good lately is the Seahawks, the Vikings have won 6 straight, but let's see how they finish.

Now for the AFC. The Broncos suck, they barely beat the Ravens, the Bengals suck, they barely beat the Browns, the Chiefs lost to Dallas, the Chargers lost to Miami, the Jags got smoked again, not as bad as last time though, by the Colts.

I am going to say Seahawks vs Colts in the Superbowl, and the Colts Win by 14 or more.

Yes, the Candian Football League even had teams in Shreveport, LA, a team in Tennesse (I think it was in Memphis), Birmingham, plus the most infamous team of all: The Baltimore CFL Colts. The Indianapolis Colts, which once were located in Baltimore, but moved to Indianapolis in the middle of the night, sued the CFL Colts to force them to quit using the Colts name (this was before Modell packed up and moved his Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore). The NFL Colts won their case in the middle of the CFL season, so the Baltimore CFL team played the rest of the season (and the next) with no name, but still kept the horse logo on their helmets. ESPN suddenly started showing CFL highlights just so Chris Berman could talk about the CFL Baltimore Horse With No Name.

I think the CFL had some teams in Canada, as well, but I'm not positive about that.

What in the world is complicated about the offside law? I've never understood why people have so much trouble understanding it. The laws on the goalkeeper handling the ball are much more complicated, if only because they keep changing the law.

I remember in one of the local leagues both teams botched this up in the same game by first passing the ball back to their own goalkeeper who picked it up, then throwing the ball in to the goal keeper who picked it up. About half time, a late arriving player showed up for one of the teams - first time he had a chance to throw the ball in, he called for the keeper, who responded "Freeze! Put the ball down! Put the ball the down and move away slowly!" The poor guy looked crushed as he bewilderedly set the ball gently on the ground and slowly backed away.

The other thing that baffled me about this game was the players all had small balls. Between about 30 players, they had one size five ball, which they kicked into a creek 30 seconds after the start of the game (there was incredibly strong wind that day), and about four or five dozen size four balls - I think half the players in that game coached youth soccer, which made ignorance of the law changes even more inexusable.

The WUSA had a few nice looking players. And they had some pretty entertaining games, as well. With the increased athletic ability of modern times, I think soccer fields are more appropriately sized for women than for men. A little more open field makes for some better team play.

You see the same thing in hockey. The larger international rinks make for better games than in the cramped NHL rinks.

What in the world is complicated about the offside law? I've never understood why people have so much trouble understanding it.

The offside situation by itself is not that complicated. What makes it complicated is the "active play" part, by which an offense is commited only when the player in the offside position is interfering with play or interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage by being in that position.
There are a lot of ways this part can be interpreted and can lead to a lot of confusion.

The last two years I think it would have been the ACC hands down, but even though they're sending 8 teams to bowl games and every game was a battle, the Big-10 might have been better. The SEC was probably top heavier.

You must know that english teams are always praised for their physical strength, but they habitually lack technical skills. However, spanish teams use to be well-skilled.

But you want proofs? Ok, no problem

Here's a nice list portraying the UEFA team ranking for year 2005.
http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/trank2005.html

Let's examine the first 50 teams. I count 10 spanish teams.: R.Madrid, Valencia, Barça, D.Coruña, Villarreal, Celta, Alaves, Zaragoza, Mallorca and Malaga

When I count english teams: oh surprise! only 6: Liverpool, Manchester, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea and Leeds

That's enough? No?, Well, I have this other nice list with the FIFA ranking of national teams. Spain is 5th and England is 9th

And your UEFA rankings are soo far out of date its unbeleivable, did you not hear about leeds getting relegated going into administration and now being absolutely useless? England favourites? They have not won the championship in decades...
And they are not my UEFA rankings. This is an official list that takes into consideration the results obtained over the last years by the teams. Leeds was relegated, but the years before to the relegation was performing fairly well, right? So, that's why it has a great amount of points
Ronaldinho has just won the FIFA Player of the year for the second consecutive season (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/4486166.stm). Second is Lampard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Lampard), that plays in Premier league, for Chelsea. But third is another player of La Liga, Eto'o (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Eto%27o).
I'm looking forward for the Barcelona vs Chelsea, because they are actually the best teams in Europe,IMHO, so it's like a premature final. Here were I live people speak to no end about the matches. Barcelona has just beaten its historical record of 11 victories in a row (with the victory yesterday against Celta it has 13 accumulated until now)

In all fairness though the referee ruined the chelsea barcelona game by sending del horno off in the first leg, it was a stupid challenge but not a red card. Liverpool outplayed benfica but had one of those days when they couldnt score. And as for Rangers, they where lucky to get through the group stages.

Its only between Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus for me. They are the strongest teams left in it.

Difficult to say - the Premier league has more depth, but Barca are the best domestic team in the world at the moment. the truth is the difference between the big three leagues at the moemnt is miniscule, but I'd say right now La Liga has just taken over the mantle of the bets league int he world form the Premiership (which was the best league in the world last season IMHO).

The rankings really don't mean anything no-one thinks they are accuarte indicators of who is better. England's squad at the moment is defintely stronger than Spain's. I'd put both teams among the top ten in the world, but at the moment England defintely have the upper hand.

Yes it's not been a great year in Europe for England's top clubs, but I'm not reading too much into it, the Premier League is still very strong, though so is La Liga and Serie A.

Barca are the best club team in the world at the moment - they may not have the best defence, but their attack is unbelivable I'd expect them to beat both those teams. Villareal aren't too shabby either they have Forlan, Sorin and most importantly Riquelme, but it is true that outside the top few teams La Liga suffers in comparison to the Premiership and Serie A.

Mar20-06, 05:50 AM
It wasn't a great year for England last year, but look at Liverpool :) I think Arsenal have every chance of winning. If only Dennis Bergkamp would fly.

Barca are a great team, but I personally think that Juventus are the best in the world. Juve's midfield would certainly cause more problems than Milan's.

All these leagues have super-teams, where no-one else is going to get a look in. La Liga has Barca, Real Madrid and Valencia, Serie A has Inter, AC Milan and Juve, even the Bundesliga has Bayern Munich and you could also add Shalke '04. The Premiership has Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool and (pre and post Souness) Newcastle. That's what makes the premiership seem better, is because it is more open.

Arsenal London suffered to beat the modest Villarreal, but now it has reached the final (first time in its history)

So congrats to my briton friends, though they have foiled the possibility of an all-spanish final

I always liked the Champions League Hymn, so here (http://www.wasimmer.de/downloads/champions_league_hymne.mp3) it is. If it sounds like Handel, it's not a coincidence

For entertainment value - Premier League.

Tho', even with Arsenal in the final and Liverpool's success, I still don't think we've cracked Europe.

Chelsea look unstoppable in the PL but average playing the other European teams.

PL is fast-paced and exciting, but I'm having my doubts over the quality these days.

Still, bring on the summer and we'll see how the likes of Lampard and Gerrard stand up against Ronaldhinio

LMAO @ Arsenal London

What about the French League? I know Lyon ogt out by Milan but still, they're an insane team. But if I were to go with the options up there, is La Liga the Spanish Premiera Division or the German Bundesliga???

La Liga's Spanish.

And, imo, Barca are the best club team in the world - we'll see what happens in the CL final

Of course, they have the Galacticos of Real Madrid - who are looking like the cast from Cocoon - and Valencia, Deportivo, Villareal...

It's a very decent league.

Bundesliga has no decent teams at the moment.

UEFA champions league hasn't been listed on the poll? That's one of my favourite leagues. But nothing is better than the World Cup!!!
Well there seems to be a lot of confusion here over "Football". Football(as called across Europe) is known as Soccer in US. But the official name given to football by FIFA is Association Football. (I like to call it "Footsie" though ).
45 days left for the world cup!!!

Who's watching the champions league finals right now?

Cracking game, though I can't watch it :frown:. Lehmann just got sent off. Barca should be leading if not for the ref.

Goal! I knew this would happen. Arsenal score with 10 men. Let's see if they can hang on for the rest of the game.

Yea, I'm watching it. I have to say that the referee is a rifler, and he has denied a legal goal to Giuly. This decision will raise hackles in the Ciutat Comtal should the match end with this scoreline. Right now, at half time, Arsenal 1-Barca 0

The champions league is a knockout competion and so can not be used to judge who's best. if it were the case then chelsea would have been in the finals as they are at present a much better team than arsenal and have proved so over the course of the pl season.

There are only two good leagues the Premeirship and the La liga but the premiership would probably come out top if a proper competion was put to gether to judge which one was best.

Well done barca, From a chelsea fan.

Was a good game but the referee spoiled it. Henry got kicked all over the place by puyol and marques but neither recieved any for of punishment (yelow card) yet henry makes a perfect tackle and gets booked whats that all about???

Well done to Barcelona they are a great team and would probably have won if it was 11 against 11 anyway but i wouldnt have been surprised if it was a high scoring game with arsenal just edging it.

What about Eboue's dive, from which Arsenal scored? He should have been sent off for that, if not for the first bad tackle.

Andy
May18-06, 12:55 PM
Yea i agree, eboue did dive and he should have been booked according to the laws of the game. But so should all of the barcelona players that where gesturing to the referee that lehman should be sent off. And there was alot more play acting by the barcelona players throughout the entire game than by the arsenal players.

Milan by a couple goals on aggregate
Liverpool by 1
Man U will win just because i don't want them too
and Chelsea will beat Valencia in both games.

I think that right now, the EPL is the strongest league in the world, especially now that Liverpool are going from strength to strength and are able to attract great players. EPL has four great teams, and at least six other teams who could beat the continental greats on their day.

I would love to see a down-to-the-last-day situation between Manu and Chelsea in the Prem, a Manu vs Chelsea FA Cup Final and a Manu vs Chelsea Champs league final.

As long as Manu win the Prem, I'm not bothered about the finals. I don't like to see monopolies, which is what Chelsea almost established in the Prem.

UEFA has decided which is the strongest league, because it assigns coefficients to the various domestic leagues in order to establish the number of clubs representing each country in the UEFA competitions. These are the coefficients for the 2007/08 campaign

http://www.uefa.com/uefa/Keytopics/kind=64/newsId=436763.html

1)Spain 72748
2)Italy 66731
3)England 63486
