View Full Version : Where have you guys been?

I've missed you. I've been checking in on you guys but somehow too busy to say hello and keep up... or something rather lame like that.

Does anyone remember me, or am I going to have to demonstrate my super-amazingness all over again? I don't mind. I have diagrams.

It must be the seasonal migration of missing PFers. Tribdog just popped in.

We're missing pengwuino.

Artman is probably off celebrating his 25th anniversary, which was yesterday. The nerve of that guy.

Congrats Artman!

He and dduardo disappeared together. I still suspect it has something to do with penguin mating season.

Yay. Thanks, guys. I think I have to plead the Fifth on my whereabouts. I might have been trying to convince a couple of boys that I am the greatest thing in the world and failing miserably. I can't remember just now.

Actually, I guess I was mainly learning a bit about computers and programming. And I did help a friend make a website that I think is pretty cool. It mostly builds itself. I have one background image left to make still, but when it's all up and shiny, I'll ask him if he minds sharing.

Oh, and it's true, my ears are totally hot. <wink-wink/>

I was actually thinking that it was about time I showed my face around here, but most of the pictures of me that I like are perhaps a little questionable for a family-friendly site. I don't think they're bad at all, but some people seem to think so. Of course, I imagine some people would interpret a picture of Mother Teresa feeding a deer to be sexually provocative, but anyway. I might have to take some new ones.

Happy Anniversary, Artman!!!

The pictures that I was talking about are like the ones on my OkCupid thinger (http://www.okcupid.com/profile?u=NoseRoseToes). Heh, it looks quite odd now that I look at it from... this site. It's not a terribly serious depiction of me. I keep having to add more to try to scare away some of the nice innocents who I fear are not prepared for my weirdness.

I was very sad in some of them. I think that's why I like them.

Those pictures aren't even so great, and they're from a while ago, January, I think. I took them before I read the manual, so I didn't know how to adjust everything, and they were all not focused so well and quite overexposed, so I had to play with their histograms a lot. Anyway, yeah, I don't like taking pictures of myself. :blushing: I don't like it a lot. Well, I like it in that I can be creative and expressive with it, but, yeah, I don't really like showing them to people. It's weird.

I love the light of the Dutch Masters. I've thought about changing it since some people think that it's me, but I really like it. Perhaps I could compromise and make a picture of myself that looks the same.

You know, I haven't wanted to make my avatar a photo of me because my appearance is not usually relevant to what I am saying. But you just made me realize that maybe I should make it obvious that I am a woman lest people not know that there exist women like me, who enjoy what I enjoy and can do what I can do.

Did you know that Feynman -- a pretty clever fellow -- once said in a talk about science and its teaching (http://www.fotuva.org/feynman/what_is_science.html):
I listened to a conversation between two girls, and one was explaining that if you want to make a straight line, you see, you go over a certain number to the right for each row you go up--that is, if you go over each time the same amount when you go up a row, you make a straight line--a deep principle of analytic geometry! It went on. I was rather amazed. I didn't realize the female mind was capable of understanding analytic geometry. [my emphasis]

Doing same things in different ways equals doing different things, in the view of the majority.

And well, regarding the people you care about, you can always correct their assumptions. As for the others, who cares!

I don't mean that my avatar would need to be relevant, just that various studies (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=physical+attractiveness+stereotyping) have shown that a person's physical appearance/attractiveness influences the judgements that some people make about them in other areas, e.g., goodness, intelligence, successfulness, and I would rather not make it a factor either way.

You probably already know not to take anything I say seriously. That's okay though. I've been called worse things than a perv. I pretty much assume any guy is somewhat perv, until I find out otherwise. I have a sneaking suspicion most women are too, but they play their cards much closer to their chest. I think that's why they always want men to look at their eyes when they speak to them. They don't want to give away their hand.
