sayonara = goodbye. That's all I've got. Is it a poem? Looks like one to me.

The Japanese is a song written by Kyoko Koizumi. Here is a link to the Kanji version:

Japanese lyrics. (http://www.corichan.com/lyrics/albums/aoyamathelma-diary.html#12)

Here is a video of her singing her own song.

Kyoko sings Kyoko (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WGM9k7SJHE&feature=related)

I made this very poor translation, my translation skills were never very good, and I haven't done it in over a decade. If it is not good enough, keep on looking as almost anyone could do a better job. I probably have mixed up 'I' and 'you' more than once as a result of my rudamentary skill.

Thank Goodness I Met You. Words by Kyoko Koizumi

After the passage of time, now I can speak from my heart.
Meeting you was certainly a good thing for me.

On a lonely evening you came to my side
You understood my feelings which I could not put into words
Saying nothing, only crying
Whenever I told my true feelings
You were always by my side

I didn't even say goodbye very well
Ah, I didn't answer your love and ran away. Excuse me.
After the passage of time, now I can speak from my heart.
Meeting you was certainly a good thing for me.

You reflected the painful night prettily
I carefully hugged fragile you
There was no surplus, not even self-confidence.
Not to notice your unsettled feeling,
All the time I pretended.

Like making a put-aside dream come true
somewhere softly
for prayerful you
like a shining star in the distant sky
While you stayed the same, never changing

I didn't even say goodbye very well
Ah, I was afraid and didn't believe your love
After the passage of time, now I can speak from my heart.
Meeting you was certainly a good thing for me.

We had the best love in the world, didn't we?
