View Full Version : "News items" dilute and interfere with New Posts

Why do we have what seems the majority of forums posting in the evening to be those of news agencies? They usurp the purpose of PF as primarily physics/science oriented and make the majority of posts at times arbitrary and repetitive (0 replies and 1 view). From what I can tell, these posts are not utilized by our members. Why not create instead a hyperlink on the homepage for those who wish to peruse this news?

It's the "new spam", I guess. The movie promotion "press release" posts are annoying too.

You mean the News Items show up in your New Posts results? You can disable it by going to:
User CP--->>Edit Options (http://physicsforums.com/profile.php?do=editoptions)--->>Scroll down then Find: Thread Display Options Window--->>Go to: Exclude Special Posts in 'New Posts' Searches=
===>>Check either one:
Exclude News Reporter Posts
Exclude Usenet Posts
then Save Changes
Cheers

Thanks, Pro. That seems to filter them out quite nicely!

Thanks also for helping this computer semi-illiterate, Pro - I'll see how it goes.
