Does any one know of a Mathematica equivalent software for Linux?

The main open source alternatives are sage, octave, scilab
Each has slightly different focuss so it depend son your needs.
Sage is probably the closest to mathematica/pure maths
octave/scilab are more matlab/data analysis

If you refer to symbolic calculations, there's maxima, but have a look in general here:

If you can get Mathematica in the 1st place get it for Linux :wink: .
