What can reflect, block or neutralize magnetism and magnetic field of a magnet?

Very often, just a hollow soft magnetic iron tube is sufficient to reduce the field from say 100 Gauss to about 1 Gauss, but the geometry and direction of the field is very important. Tell us details of the unshielded field, is it ac or dc, the volume you need to shield, and what field you need to achieve inside the shielded volume. It is usually much better and cheaper to approach the design from the physics standpoint than by buying expensive Mu-metal shielding material.
