The Zuiderzee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zuiderzee) was a shallow bay in The Netherlands, which became a the IJsselmeer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ijselmeer) (lake IJssel) in 1932 with the closure of the Afsluitdijk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afsluitdijk). That had a huge impact on the local culture. It ended the frequent flooding with storms but it also obstructed world wide mechandize shipping and fishing in the North Sea.

To preserve the cultural heritage relicts of the Zuiderzee culture, the Zuiderzee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zuiderzeemuseum) museum was installed, with not only hardware but also people around to demonstrate the old craftworks in the Zuiderzee culture in late ninetheenth century.

Been there today and shot some 400 pics. In the next post I'll show a selection, so you can enlarge your trivia knowledge about the Netherlands.
