This is a thread to ask why.
Here's one on my mind lately considering Arnolds threat to run as President.
If conservatives hate liberal Hollywood types, then why do they keep making Presidents out of actors?

A British survey of 103 Roman Catholic priests, Anglican bishops and Protestant ministers/pastors showed that:
97% do not believe the world was created in six days.
80% do not believe in the existence of Adam and Eve.
The percentage of adults who believe that "the Bible is the actual word of God and it is to be taken literally, word for word" is 5 times higher in the U.S. than in Britain.
Similarly, belief that "Human beings developed from earlier species of animals..." is much smaller in the United States (35%) than in other countries (as high as 82%).
So, why is it that in the US - which is a leader in technological and scientific progress - archaic Christian superstition is so prevalent ?

Sure it does. Its a purely Machiavellian decision, actors can be very persuasive by nature. Arnold is not like most hollywood actors. He is not a social conservative, but unlike most actors, he is not a socialist.
And we don't hate all actors, just liberal ones, so 99% of them. Reagan was not liberal. Arnold is sufficiently conservative for my tastes, and just from ideological stand points, if he were on a national ballot he could win, being a republican who could easily take california, that would mean instant defeat for any democrat running against him. With out california the democrats go from being 10 electoral votes behind to 120 electoral votes behind. So yeah.
Also though this may be tangent i just thought of something:
Rich democrats got their money from inheritances, lawsuits, or illegal activites *cough*Kennedys*cough*(the family fortune having been based on bootlegging, though yes i'ms ure they've had legitimate income since then ).
Rich republicans get their money from their own business ventures.
Not a universal rule, but a general pattern. Rich people who had to work for their money are conservative, they want to keep what they earned. Rich people who didn't have to work particularly hard (actors) are typically more liberal, they have less understanding of the value of work vs the value of money.

I like to call this 'The Gap', it's where a large fraction of the population is clever and knows stuff. And the rest of the population has been enthralled by the hollywood-media-culture and have resorted to being dumb because they don't know how to do anything else. You will notice this population makes up america's working corp and is(was?) invaluable to the american economy and is therefor kept dumb by the 3 true divisions of the government, which as I've said before, are Military, Corporate and Hollywood.

And while we're at it, why do cats have to think about everything so long before they finally do it? "I'll sit here, but first I'm going to walk around this spot for a couple of minutes..." "I'm going to drink from this cup, but first I'm going to do the paw thing and reposition myself a few dozen times". Why? What are they thinking about?

I certainly can't remember anyone saying that.
Speaking for myself, I think organized religion is foolish but as far as believing in a higher power goes - if you found a reason to believe that then go for it.

Why do most places provide stir sticks five inches long for cups of coffee six inches tall? If you use sugar - one or the two reasons for stirring - it will be at the bottom of the cup.

Quite simple: put-up-or-shut-upism: while other actors simply whine, Arnold (and Ronnie) actually ran for office. If Martin Sheen ever decided to run for office, I still would think he's a kook, but at least he'd be a relevant kook.
Democrats like to talk, Republicans like to do. So my question: why don't Democratic actors ever do?
Why are fools so sure of themselves and the wise so full of doubts?
