can anyone help me with this problem please--

A tortoise can run with a speed of 0.10 m/s and a hare can run 20 times as fast. in a race they both start at the same time but the hare stops to rest for 2.0 minutes. the tortoise wins by 20 cm.

how long does the race take?
what is the length of hte race?

I guess the totoise runs 0.10*t and the hare 20*0.10*(t-120) meters. One little first degree equation...

The distance the tortoise covers in t seconds is 0.10*t meters and the distance the hare covers is 20*0.10*(t-120) meters as Sonty said. However, the condition that "the tortoise wins by 20 cm" means that, if t is the time when the tortoise crosses the finish line, then 20*0.10*(t-120)= 0.10*t- 0.2. That's the equation you need to solve.
