Ok, I have a confession to make. I LOVE the tv show "Desperate Housewives".
I didn't watch it the first few weeks it was on because I assumed it was just another stupid, smarmy soap opera. Boy was I wrong. The show is clever and HYSTERICALLY funny, with several bizzare murder/suicides being revealed.
Has anyone else watched it? It's on tonight at 9pmEST/8pm Central here in the US.
I highly recommend it. (for the guys, plenty of gorgeous scantily clad women)

Hmm I thought it was some kind of soap drama as well, so I have yet to even think of watching it. However, I will record it tonight, it better be good *shakes fist*

However, I will record it tonight, it better be good *shakes fist*Tonight's episode is new, but if it's anything like the past episodes, it should be very good.
Tonight Zack, the son of the woman who comitted "suicide" after what appears to be some tie to blackmail concerning the death of an infant daughter (which was covered up and the baby perhaps buried under the swimming pool?), which he's having flashbacks of murdering, but it seems perhaps he didn't really kill the baby, but was made to think so to hide the truth, which has destroyed his mind to some extent...
Oh, just watch it for the gorgeous women in their underwear and the fun.

I'm never home that early...but with a name like "Desperate Housewives" it wasn't really tempting me !
...book by its cover, eh ?

Ergo, soaps are not what I've imagined them to be all along.
Oh, no...what have I been missing ???!! :surprised
Say, would Blockbuster have the last 17 (or is it 36?) years worth of Bold and the Beautiful ? I've got some catching up to do. :grumpy:

They take these really dark situations and then make everything happening around it so funny and weird. It's the only tv show I give "two thumbs up" to.

I wasn't all that impressed. It did come across as another smarmy soap opera to me. I watched it a bit on Grammy night, because I wasn't interested in that, and turned the TV off halfway through.

Trust me, no soap here.

Say Evo, the way you're plugging for the show, sounds look you have a vested interest. You don't act in it or anything, do you ? Even if you don't, saying you do will instantly raise the viewership by a goodly bit.

I watched the first half of whatever episode was on Grammy night. This actually was a second shot. I saw the first episode without knowing what it was, and wasn't impressed by that either. All I remember was some mom getting mad at her kids because one of them stole a flower pot from the neighbor she hates, and made her look bad in front of the whole neighborhood. The characters were just all too over the top. It reminded me of Malcolm in the Middle crossed with the Stepford Wives and the Young and the Restless.
How many nights a week do they have it on anyway? It seems to be on at least twice a week.

You guys are probably too young to remember "Soap" with Billy Crystal, this is like Soap. It has the tragic stuff, but it's tongue in cheek and funny.
I guess if you liked" Soap", you'll like this.
Moonbear, I guess we have different senses of humor. I think the prim and proper soccer mom turning her home into a brothel and becoming a "dominatrix" to pay the Country Club fees is funny.

I remember 'Soap"! Wasn't Billy Crystals' character gay?
I wont watch 'desperate housewives' because it makes me think of what a pathatic loser I am. No housewife for me and even the desperate ones snub me.
Is it me or was disney trying to be risque' with this title?

Even the characters are almost carbon copies of the HBO namesake

Desperate Housewives = Sex in the Suburbs

Yep, we must have different senses of humor. I do remember Soap, and didn't like that either (though I was young, so could have also been that it was just too old for me). I did like Sex in the City though...not crazy about it, just liked it enough that if I was staying in a hotel with HBO, I'd watch it.

Desperate Housewives----------- Sex in the City ------------------------- Role
"Susan" (Teri Hatcher)-------------"Carrie" (Sarah Jessica Parker)----------- Everywoman
"Bree" (Marcia Cross)--------------"Miranda" (Cynthia Nixon)---------------- The straight and narrow(or at least tries to be)
"Edie" (Nicollete Sheridan)--------"Samantha" (Kim Cattrall)---------------- The slut
"Gabrielle" (Eva Longoria) ------------------------------------------------- ---- The slut (DH has two of these, how original!)
Haven't watched enough of either show to characterize the other characters( "Charlotte" in SITC and "Lynette" in DH)

What are you talking about? They already have soft porn all over the disney world parks! I had a friend that worked out there and she gave me the 'insiders' tour of epcot. In the buckey ball(spaceship earth) ride there are some really interesting 'art pieces' that you will not see unless it is pointed out. For example, on that ride there is a part that is egyption themed. On one of the walls there is a hieroglyph of a man doing the egyption walk with an enormous boner! Unless it is pointed out to you it is nearly impossible to see because the scene is quick and the stimulation saturates you. These are some of the dirty little 'jokes' that all of the happy workers at disney know about. I guess that's one way to ease the pain of minimum wage slavery!

Ok, I watched it. It was alright. First, you lied, there were no women in underwear. However, that one chick is extremely hot, the lady who is having money problems. At first I thought that guy was saying he was gay just to sleep with her, but I guess he was actually gay. The show also seemed to really build stereotypes: That nerd kid wanting to shoot the other kids, the party kid being gay and denying it. But, in my opinion, the show was very similar to a soap opera; however, the show is not bad, just not my style.
