Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around the process and requirements for submitting research papers to the IEEE Computer conference. Participants explore what constitutes acceptable research for submission and the general practices surrounding calls for papers.

Discussion Character

  • Exploratory
  • Homework-related

Main Points Raised

  • One participant inquires about the criteria for research results to be accepted by the IEEE Computer conference.
  • Another suggests contacting the organizing committee or seeking advice from research staff, indicating a possible lack of familiarity with the submission process.
  • A participant clarifies that calls for papers typically request abstracts and that published work is generally not accepted, only work in progress.
  • There is a repeated assertion regarding the nature of submissions, emphasizing the focus on ongoing research rather than completed studies.
  • One participant shares their experience of having published at conferences and in journals, indicating a level of familiarity with the publication process.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express a general understanding that calls for papers focus on work in progress rather than published research, but there is no consensus on specific submission criteria or processes.

Contextual Notes

Some assumptions about the submission process and the nature of acceptable research are not fully explored, and there may be variations in practices across different conferences.

Who May Find This Useful

Students and early-career researchers interested in understanding the submission process for academic conferences, particularly in the field of computer science.

I see in my department bulletin board a poster "IEEE computer, call for papers", do you know how a research result should be to get accepted ?
Thanks

Send it to the organizing committee, or get someone to send it on your behalf. I presume you are still a student or something - so ask the research staff in your department.

Yes, I am a student, I amnot going to publish any papers, I just wonder a little how things work.

Normally it is a call for abstracts, where you are able to present your research work. Published work normally is not accepted, only work in progress. As matt grime said, ask for information from the organizers.

Hello, Monique, have you published any paper or articles before ?
What are they ?

I have, both at conferences and in journals. My profile lists some of the work I've done.
