What crazy things have you seen for sale on Ebay? I remember when someone auctioned off the universe...but here's another one:

Physics news on Phys.org
I had a whole thread in another forum listing about 15 really dumb/weird things... all bought by that goldencasino.com or something. There were things like... a potato... "the right to choose my babies name" ... or some other crazy stuff.

I've seen a 5-year old tuna sandwich, a piece of toast with the virgin mary, a piece of toast with...ah...too many toast ones...

The world's longest french fry was sold recently for almost $200.

Also: A figurine of a smoking baby, moose droppings as jewlery, and other good stuff.

This one is a fake, but it is really funny (it's better if you know something about guitars). Check out the guy's homepage too.

There was a large plastic leg for sale for 50p once... Also, 'Absolutely nothing' was for sale for 50c - this included 'no costs for postage as you won't be getting anything'!

HAHAHAHAHAHA nice picture

Anyway a while back I saw one for a windows XP file folder. I couldn't find it though, I guess the EBAY search doesn't search under old auctions but it was like "for sale is a windows xp file folder. With this file folder you can store volumes of computer data, up to the amount of free space on your hard drive. Plus you can rename this folder to anything you like by pressing F2 on your keyboard."

Looks like a burned piece of toast with a feeding emu in the center, to me.

No, I'm serious!

The bottom part of the jump rope on the right side is the head, at the ground, which is eating grass.

This one was for real (at least it was actually posted on ebay):

Someone is selling a wide-mouth, one-quart Mason jar of air that was captured at the Los Angeles area movie premiere for "Mr. And Mrs. Smith," which stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The bidding is currently up to $20,500.

The state of Washington issued a citizen an anti-George Bush license plate on accident, only to send a letter to the owner telling him it's use has been revoked (his plate read "F DUBYA"). So what does he do? Sell the license plate on eBay of course! The opening bid was $5,000.

No idea why anyone would have any use for this... but now you can buy a super ugly http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8194903445 (with two controllers).

And for a change, here's aone crazy Ebay buyer : http://www.randomthink.net/misc/ebay/

Those are some good ones.

Why was the license plate revoked, is there some law against it or something?

  • #17
Most every state retains the right to refuse plates that are offensive, abusive, vulgar,...or anything that's "not decent".

Ebay doesn't allow the sale of valid license plates that are less than 5 yrs old.

Oh, I see it now! Merlin's jump rope forms the emu shape. Cool! And to think the seller only saw the Virgin Mary in it when it's such a complex piece of grilled cheese art. Wow, the buyer of it really got a bargain. Well, at least now that woman has the money to buy herself a better frying pan since the one she has must be pretty warped to burn all the outside edges of the bread and leave the center uncooked like that. :-p

Toast in the post.
you could pay a guy (buy it now price- 99p) and he would stamp and address a piece of toast (just on its own. no envelope or anything) and send it to you. Most pieces got there ok.

You'd be surprised what you can send in the post. I once wrote an address on the side of a lemon, sellotaped a stamp to it and sent it first class to my friend. He got it no problem, though was rather bemused about who had sent him a lemon and why.

I have to go to the grocery store...then I'm off to the post office to mail some citrus!

One of the folks in our department had fun on a trip to Hawaii mailing coconuts to people. Same concept, just write the address on the coconut shell, stick enough postage to it, and away it goes. There was some "girly" suggestion I read once about sending baby shower invitations in baby bottles. Just affix the address label to the outside of the baby bottle and roll up the invite inside it and ship the bottle. It just amazes me that people actually bid on these things.

I tried to sell my little sister on Ebay.

No joy, I only started the bidding at £50.

I thought it was pretty futile too. I mean why would I pay 99p to send someone toast when I could pay a fraction of a penny for a slice of bread, 20-odd p for a stamp and do it myself. Its still on my to do list actually... I'm just not sure who to send it to.

i don't care for ebay, especially as a seller. they have high fees and a lot of competition. the small stores seem to do well, but as an independent seller, good luck.

I find it's useful just to get rid of stuff, rather than sell to make a profit.

I don't have a link but a woman sold her husband's hotted up sports car for $1. It was listed as a buy it now, and the description said that they had to be able to pick it up within the next few hours. She had found out he was cheating on her, and so she needed it gone by the time he got home. The car was in her name and everything (probably for tax reasons or something).
