Greetings

I have mathematica 4.0, and I've just had to install in on my laptop because my desktop HD crashed. For some reason, the kernel crashes any time I try to do a calculation, even something like 2+2

I run the same OS on my laptop as on my desktop (XP), so I have no idea what the problem could be. Any thougths?

Does this happen with any other installed programs? Have you checked for any patches for mathematica?

.... would suggest a clean install of the mathematica for starters and see if it repeats, unless it gives any identifiable error code or something can be found from logs, dumps etc?
