I also agree with you in the sense of his medals being taken away for using banned substances because that's the rules the committee wants to enforce. They have every right but I disagree with you in the sense that he cheated, and therefore disagree with the decision of, "these medals are being taken away because Lance cheated." They can take them away but they must also define why before taking them away otherwise, I believe they are taking them away solely because it conforms to the notion of "cheating" (the reason why they banned the substances because it gave one an "unfair" advantage) which is, to me, not something self-evident given the many reports on many cyclists using performance enhancing drugs.

    Altitude training wikipedia.

But to my main point in why Lance should not have his medals taken away.

The core of my argument is if the competitors are all using performance enhancing drugs, then who is really cheating and cheating against whom? They are breaking the rules and it is fair to have their medals taken away, but the defining point of receiving a medal is the competitor won within the context of what is natural (excuse me). (EPO, the drug, taking advantage of natural processes).

You can make the argument that they are cheating against those abiding by the rules, and I would agree with you within that context.

How do you define unfair (provided everyone is using the same drug)?

However, if you define it in the sense of one having an advantage no other has, would you define the use of a person training with state of the art equipment and can afford seasoned coaches, unfair?

    (Two separate questions.)

I guess given the situation, I accept that his medals were taken, but I don't agree with it. If that helps. I dislike the rule and I find that medals represent the best competitor competing at similar, natural (I don't like the word, but it works here), levels. Given the latter, Lance's medals represent that he won fairly even if the rules stipulate that there is a ban on performance enhancing drugs. So, it isn't that I don't accept the situation rather I don't like it. I do accept it and I even alluded to that acceptance in earlier posts.

(Given my infraction and various insults hurled my way, I'd rather not post in that thread any longer.)

A bit more sleep the night before, or a bit more beer on the day but yeah it was a good laugh, still have the pictures on my phone of the 'most secure house in london' with about 20 police out side. Yeah they go nuts for that one - well i do anyway. People get tired of my saying things like "Acoustics is actually not as easy as it sounds" and then giggling a bit.

Haha yeah I am, that was Notting hill wasn't it? Those pictures are pretty cool actually, I like 'the museum of advertising and packaging one' or what ever that sign said! Good times.

As somebody who works in the field of nanotechnology and is relatively young the first I ever heard of the word was not in a Web of Science database search, but in science fiction. This is part of what inspired me to go into the field and learn more about it, unfortunately not everybody does this. Nanotechnology has dominated science fiction of the past two decades but to this day I have never seen anybody address it correctly. In every day life and on forums such as this I regularly encounter people...
