Discussion Overview

The discussion revolves around identifying the most important individual for coordinating global technology. Participants explore the concept of coordination in the context of technological systems and their interconnectivity, touching on historical and future perspectives.

Discussion Character

  • Debate/contested
  • Conceptual clarification

Main Points Raised

  • One participant defines "coordinating" as providing a human link that enables worldwide technological systems to function as a whole.
  • Another participant suggests that Bill Gates has been a significant figure in technology coordination due to the widespread use of Windows and its impact on the IT industry.
  • A different viewpoint humorously claims that the next important figure will be the original poster themselves.
  • One participant speculates that future coordination may be linked to space technology and suggests that a director at NASA or a private space company could play a crucial role in planetary colonization.
  • There is a mention of other technologies like nanotech and genomics, which are viewed as supportive to survival and space exploration rather than primary focuses.

Areas of Agreement / Disagreement

Participants express differing opinions on who the most important figure is and what "coordinating" entails. There is no consensus on a single individual or the future direction of technological coordination.

Contextual Notes

The discussion lacks clarity on specific criteria for determining the importance of individuals in technology coordination and does not resolve the implications of various technologies mentioned.

Who, in your opinion, is the person most important for coordinating our world's technology?

russ,

"Coordinating" meaning providing a human link which enables worldwide technological systems to function as a whole.

Unfortunately, I think that person, for the past decade or so, has been Bill Gates. As much as Windows is hated by many, the fact is the OS is easy, and has been a massive part of the growth of the entire IT industry, which allows the spread of information.

Who then, after King Gates?

Well, me, obviously.

ROFLMAO!

Hail to the King! :-D

Seriously though, I think the next person will be related to spacetechnology... All in all, the alltime greatest challenge is to allow people to colonize other worlds and spread ( and sadly, as we know supress/kill local inhabitants/"aliens" ) as far as we posibly can... Achieving this would be the ultimate success of our civilisation, the only, if any, reason for our existense, except of course for survival...
Maybe the person will be some director at NASA or in a private company, who see profit in space travel or planetary colonisation. Cant name anyone for the time being though...

One could ask "what about nanotech, cloning, computers, genomresearch and that stuff?" Well, IMHO that aids to either maintain our survival, or help us get into space...
That's how I see it

Best regards

Thomas Hansen
