SUMMARY

The forum discussion centers on a matrix transformation problem where the user initially misapplied the transformation on vector w. The correct transformation is T(w) = (2, -1), which was mistakenly referenced as (j) = -w + 2i. The user, after receiving clarification from Sam, successfully corrected the transformation. This exchange highlights the importance of accurately defining vectors in matrix operations.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of matrix transformations
  • Familiarity with vector notation
  • Knowledge of linear algebra concepts
  • Ability to interpret mathematical notation
NEXT STEPS
  • Study matrix transformation techniques in linear algebra
  • Learn about vector definitions and their implications in transformations
  • Explore common mistakes in matrix operations and how to avoid them
  • Practice with additional examples of matrix transformations
USEFUL FOR

Students studying linear algebra, educators teaching matrix operations, and anyone looking to improve their understanding of vector transformations in mathematics.

I'm afraid you've made a mistake in line 3.

You said that (j) = -w + 2i, because you've used w = (2,-1),
this is actually T(w).

You defined w on the second line as (1,1).

Hope this helps, let me know how you get/got on,
Sam

ahh thank you! it worked out now!
