Sky News: Unexpected Discovery Revealed

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers around a Sky News article that features an intriguing image purportedly showing a figure on Mars, sparking debate about its nature. Participants express skepticism about the figure's authenticity, with some suggesting it resembles Sasquatch or a "Mars Woman" due to its unusual shape. Concerns are raised regarding the natural formation of the rock, particularly its arm-like structure, which seems atypical for Martian geology. The thin Martian atmosphere and the potential for wind erosion are mentioned as factors that could influence rock shapes. Integral points out the lack of scale in the image, questioning whether the figure is large or small, and suggests that the figure may be a product of photo manipulation, as it was only a small detail in the original photograph.

No, it's the Abominable Marsman.

The legs are not separate. It doesn't look like a walking being, unless it's a Mars Woman instead, and is wearing a skirt. I would like to know, however, how such a rock could be formed naturally. The arm doesn't look natural for a rock. I could more easily expect rocks of strange shapes in places where there is water.

Martian atmosphere is thin, but there are winds that carry sand, which can erode the rocks.

It's a rock.

Integral adds:
1. You are given no scale, is that 1" or 100'
2.From the article:
But a space fan spotted the figure, which was just a pinprick in the original photograph. It was blown up and posted on a website.
It's a photochop.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
